glass fell off my wing mirror!

Mine fell off couple weeks back. Got one off EBay recommended by another forum member and stuck it on. The vertical line on it is white though and original one is black. Really getting on my nerves :headbang:

Same for me, the one I put on from eBay has a more pronounced blue tint to it than the original & has a solid black line on it compared to the perforated line on the original...but I did save £280 by not getting one from the dealer so I shouldn't moan to much!

My drivers side fell off on Thursday. Was on the M6 and noticed the mirror vibrating, when i arrived at Penrith i pulled over to check it out and the glass fell out in my hand. It just seems to have lost adhesion from the heating element pad. Anyone tried a fine film of Araldite to secure it back in?

My passenger mirror fell off and smashed whilst the dealer was driving the car onto the ramp. Dealer fitted a new one FOC, so was lucky.

Mine had been wobbling since the return of the hot weather, I'd been meaning to check it.

I didn't and while washing the car, I shut the passenger door and...

Hows this for luck... Today i folded both mirrors up and both glass fell off :headbang:

Lucky none broke though! One i caught on the trainer mid air; the other landed on the ground but survived.

I had noticed the passenger one vibrating a lot while driving but just thought it was a bumpy road!

This thread is worrying...my mirrors both shake like crazy when I listen to music.

You might as well order 2 new ones and keep them in the boot. I was lucky mine fell off near home.

Car is still under warranty so with a strongly worded email (if needed) I'm sure they'll replace FOC.

I was lucky as my passenger mirror fell off and broke whilst the dealer was driving it onto their service ramps 2 weeks ago, dealer replaced it FOC :D

I stuck mine down with some araldite... Still gets warm to touch... And seem solid enough... Only time will tell though!

This just happened to me with no warning, going over a bump on the a-bahn. The passenger mirror glass flew off, and smashed against the rear wheel arch, causing three or four 2" gouges all the way to the bare metal, along with several other smaller ones. So that's not only a new mirror glass, but also a repair on the rear quarter panel, and the associated costs and risks of the colours not matching up. FFS.

FFS indeed.

Has anyone with the extended Mondial BMW warranty attempted to claim this yet? I bet they would try and pass it off as "trim" even though its an essential piece of the car and a key safety feature!!

Close - they actually regard it as "glass", which is an explicit exclusion from the Extended Warranty.

One of the (many) reasons why I have not continued with the Extended Warranty on my Z4 - every claim I made was rejected as it was "trim" or "glass" or "water ingress" or "you're wearing the wrong colour shirt today, sir". (OK, I made the last one up, but it wouldn't surprise me).

Bit of a bodge fix until my replacement arrives...

Can't really get more OEM than that. The field of view is mega.

I didn't bother with a mirror while I was waiting for mine, fortunately it was sunny enough to have the roof down though so I could still see

Walking through our village on Monday afternoon and saw a guy with his 54 plate 2.2i E85. Guess what he was doing? No surprise he was fixing new replacement glass to his drivers wing mirror. Told him it was a common problem and suggested he check the passenger side.

My mirror flew off during the warm weather didn't realise this was such a wide issue!

My new mirror has arrived (bay purchase) looks to have two pre stuck pads already attached... what's the best way to do this - looks like a paper thin piece of plastic lines the mirror plate not sure if I should peal this away or not it snaps away quite easily like.. a large fish food flake.
