Glad to find a Z4 specific forum

There is a thread about relocating the motor to the trunk, have you found that to be a good preventive measure?
.
I would seriously consider this mod (moving the motor to the trunk/boot) but haven't seen what's actually involved, as those with the skills to do it are charging for their time to do it (fair enough) and probably don't think it's in their best interest to put the exact process online.
Unless I'm completely wrong and it is out there somewhere - I just haven't seen it.
I've taken the soft top off several times (thanks to Shipkiller's excellent 'how to' guide), so not scared of that job, and once off, it's probably not too difficult moving the motor to the rear. The real skill/art is in doing the job without removing the roof

Alright, I finally got a couple of photos of my Zed. I am in the middle of re-doing the brushed aluminum interior trim to carbon fiber, so once that is done, I will snap a few of that.

Thanks, buzyg. As I have no working knowledge of the Alpha, I could not attest to its maintenance record, just that some folks tend to get passionate about their home grown mechanisms. I am a pure Harley man, so I understand this mentality. As for autos, I tend to German/Swedish (got an S80 & S60). Trucks are always USA.

Hello, nice looking Z, did see a few in Miami this year.
As for Alpha's being home grown, their not. Well not in the UK, these are Italian machines built in Italy, different country. :poke:

Firebobby, you are correct. I believe I was thinking of MG and Triumph, but I do not know if those are even made anymore.

Hello rjsimmons, welcome to the forum. Also from Virginia (SE VA). Great to see another member from this side of the pond. 8)

Steady on there :poke: :poke: ,
It's such a shame that we have lost so many car makes over the years, many were world beaters in their day.
Most are now classics and as such, command high prices and still give plenty of employment to companies that make and sell parts for this large market.

Rjsimmons,

A belated welcome sir ! Always nice to see another of our 'cousins' here. Enjoy the Zed (not Zee :-) )

Tbf the advent of the golf gti showed everyone what useless lumps allot of those "sports" cars were.

Thanks.

What part of Old Dominion are you located? I am just north of Fredericksburg and work just outside of Quantico.

I'm from the Gloucester area just north of Yorktown, (not too far off).

Been down that way, from time to time. Spent a few months at Dam Neck doing aviation intel school while I was in VMAQ-2. Enjoyed watching the Norfolk Tides.

I agree with you on the driving experience, not so on the looks though :)
As for the driving experience, the Golf was a brand new car from a company that had plenty of money to back it. Most British metal by then was coming from a company that was on it's knees due to management and workforce issues.

Question for the SME's on the board:

I have noticed that my passenger side door does not unlock when double-tapping the unlock on the fob, nor with the interior center console button. Would this be a software setting or possibly a broken item in the door itself? I am able to unlock with the door handle and can hear something moving when I press the center console lock/unlock button.

Hi and welcome ,

Love the Harley and the Z4 always liked the turbine wheels

I have the same problem, I removed the door latch mechanism and checked it out couldn't find anything wrong with it visually, lubricated it and it worked fine for a few weeks, now it works occasionally , I believe it needs a new latch , but I can't be bothered as I'm usually on my own in the car !

Great to see some pictures. Love the little Carbon flourishes. The weather there looks a lot better than in the UK at the moment. :) I've only driven the Zed about 12 miles in the past month
