Formula 1

Just wonder if Lewis had joined McClaren instead of Ferrari would he have a better chance of nailing another world championship?

I think McLaren are quite happy with the drivers they have!

And for Lewis it would be a bit "been there, done that".

McLaren is probably the only team that is happy with both their drivers.

Oscar Piastri is the Hungarian GP 2024 winner, his first race win in Formula 1. McLaren is looking likely to win the constructors' championship this year with their strong performances in the last few races. They are now 51 points behind Red Bull with 11 races to go.

…an Max Verstappen spat his dummy out and is a potty mouth

BTW, there was a bit of a coming together on lap 73 of the Toronto Indycar race today...

If I was norris, I'd have kept the place and the win. I feel there was some major politics involved.

Feel for piastri, his first win was because of team orders, not on merit at all.

If I was Piastri I would refuse to accept a gifted win and wait for a win on merit; self respect also has a value.

Piastri had the lead and team instructions handed it to Norris, so they handed it back later. Norris was the faster driver on the day, so I agree he could have won. But he missed the start, tricky from pole on that Circuit. The team should have brought Piastri in first and prevented the whole swapping drivers debate. Then Norris could have tried for the over take. As it was Norris should have moved over earlier and tried to take it back. Not an easy thing on that circuit in equal cars.

As for Max. He's showing his true colours again, now he doesn't have the best toy.

Great race- particularly as a McLaren fan. Max was scrappy today- a man with his experience should be better at handling pressure.

As Norris seems like the only one that can challenge Verstappen for the WDC, it seemed a strange decision to take points away from him. Whilst McClaren have developed a race winning car and have two very capable drivers, it is the team that's seems to keep dropping the ball.

Verstappen just shows what a spoiled little brat he really is when things aren't going 100% his way. I like him even less now.

Great race, though. Looks like F1 is becoming interesting again (about time). :)

If Lando loses the WDC by 7 points, McLaren are going to look really, really silly.

its possible - 11 races left this season, 76 points difference - so lando needs to close the gap by 7 points each race - which is the difference between 1st and 2nd. given how strong McLarens are looking right now, and how average the RB is looking, its definitely possible. heck, Max nearly scored zero points at hungary, which would have closed the gap hugely.

but, if Mclaren give in to politics and Lando and Oscar share wins, Max might keep his top spot.

McLaren should be focusing on their lead driver right now. If the WDC doesnt look winnable by race 18 or so, then Lando can give Oscar his 'deserved' win... though, Lando qualified 1st, and had the faster car, so don't really think Oscar deserved the win at all, all he did was get a slightly better start. If Oscar had pulled away from lando like Lando was able to do to him, he wouldnt have been undercut by Lando in the first place.

I am surprised Norris didn't let him past on an advantageous part of the track then use DRS to overtake him.

PS Do you think Max is looking for a way out of Red Bull and spoiling for an argument so he can flounce off

I'm amazed Lando let Oscar past seeing as he is chasing Max for the title, but credit to him for accepting the team orders.

No way would Max have done the same for his team-mate in that situation! And he showed his true colours again with his kamikaze attempt at passing Lewis so it was a well deserved penalty. :happyclap:

I can't stand the spoilt brat.

Where would he go, without his dad to look after him.

Yes, the last few races have been really good and we expect another one at Spa this week.

I was expecting a few surprises at Spa and we got a big one after the race as George Russell was disqualified for an underweight car and Hamilton was promoted to winner.

Yes George made the strategy call that won the Race and was robbed by a team error. Not Lewis's fault though so a fair win for him. Red bull No where. :o

Poor George. No way did 1.5kg keep Lewis behind him all those laps.
That's a huge weight difference for these super light cars, surely Mercedes weighed the car. I would like to know what made that weight difference. Mind you Mercedes do make an SL which stands for Super Light.

I’m no expert but some of them have been saying that it could be up to three tenths a lap due to Spa having the longest lap
IIRC Martin Brundle quotes regularly in commentary a tenth a lap per litre
Hard luck on George though. He’d have picked up enough debris on any other track to make that up.
I saw his tyres at the end, there was virtually nothing stuck to them

Anyone else noticed since Newey said he was leaving that RB have gone from romping it to struggling?

Great race though
