Fitting a double DIN aftermarket radio

The BMW logo is just a splash screen.
The vents are not pushed all the way in as one can see if they've ever taken the vents out. The vents would be snug against the bezel and there would be no gap. As far as a CAD, I really don't care about it all that much to be quite honest. I own 4 bimmers and have a lot of experience with these cars and it's just a bunch of metal, rubber, glass, and plastic to me...and a lot of german confused engineering. Actually this car is a lot less complex than my E60. This car probably gets about 5000 mi a year at most. It's good enough for my road trips, same pioneer unit as my wife's E46 and sure beats the stock system w/carver subs. We barely drive it so I can't bare thinking about putting in any more work on this car.

Just one clip, access from the glove box, pretty much what I imagined to be the case, thanks!

Yeah I dd have the basic BMW setp but fitted a Pioneer DEH P88RS II running stock front speakers (for now, only had the car two weeks! lol) and a 12" Infinity Perfect Sub.

I'm sure I can get them made but no idea of cost until I can get a proper quote, and I am local in Droitwich. I will send a PM with my email address.

i wait to take out my car to work on one face plate. i took a look on the cad and it could be nice but i'm not shure if the radio gonna come to hot with the vent open because it's will push the air right in the back of the unit.

p.s. sorry if my English is maybe not right because i'm french

Hey that's better pictures

How have you capped off the heater vent so it doesn't blow hot air onto the back of the unit?

What material is used there it look like alacnatra

I capped off the vents so nothing gets blown on the HU.

I used 2 facia plates with 1 inverted as suggested above.

The material is Alcantara.

Thanks for your valuable input Terryvision - I know it's not "perfect" but I am, and have been very happy with the functionality and aesthetical appeal for the last 18 months. I'm not saying you have to do it, just posting pictures of what I have done as requested.

8) wasn't meant to offend, its your car and life would be boring if we all liked the same things

The right hand side looks a lot better than the left.

If it were me I would look into plastic welding the two halfs together, prep and paint high gloss to match the head unit.

Doug from Soundman Car Audio has managed to get an iPad mini into the car we all love.

Nicely done. Very pro finish. Makes me wish I didn't have the OEM nav so I could do this!

Many thanks. I spend a lot of time in the car so functionality was important.

My amp died, £400 to replace or sell the introvee for £200, spend £380 on a head unit and add touch screen I ipod + bluetooth.

As an office worker, I'm really impressed by the things some chaps on here achieve. I stuck my head out a bit even attempting this but I am happy with the results

On the first video guy from soundman mentions an aftermarket double din frame with iphone dock - it looks quite ok on the vid - anybody has one of them in their Z?
