Fitting a double DIN aftermarket radio

On the first video guy from soundman mentions an aftermarket double din frame with iphone dock - it looks quite ok on the vid - anybody has one of them in their Z?

Was custom.

its a shame that the soundman project didn't try and recess it into the dash they have the space by the looks of it. i think it wouldn't be too bad if it were flush to the dash.

the insert that was already there looked like a good idea.

I thought that by saying custom he meant aftermarket.. thats a shame..

No, the original double din fascia used was also custom built. Spoke to Doug about it as I wanted one!

Beautiful topic. No one has ever thought to use this Panel to integrate a retractable tablet?

Whilst liking the double din units I'm not convinced they're suited to the Zed and think it would spoil the dash. Even the single units look gash to me.
Looking forward to seeing pics of the install though and hope to be proven wrong.

Did the units ever get made would love a double din unit think it looks great would be happy to pay £100 for the fascia

Looks great

Thanks, it was going to redirect them to the side vents but ended up just capping the vent off completely, hasn’t made any difference I don’t think.
I’m currently making a dash kit to fit an iPad Pro 10.5” now to replace it.
Finishing up the boot install now

Nice! Which Pioneer unit is this? How are you finding it? I'm looking at getting the AVH 230 DAB fitted.

It’s an old one now, avh-x8500bt the newer ones are far better with the 13 band eq and adjustable slope etc.
If my iPad kit looks good enough I’ll be fitting that and going full HI RES with the new Addison C20 & bit one hd

Beautiful! How do you connect the iPad to the car's steering system and controls?

not sure yet, there not many interfaces for the e85 so if I can’t find a solution, I’ll try make a solution

Ah cool. Cheers for the reply. Do keep us updated, it looks decent. I have no clue what i'm doing with electronics (or pretty much in life!!) so I'm just trying to get some cash together to get the Pioneer put in. An ipad kit would be ideal and amazing though

There are many videos on the net about how you can do it. I see only the steering-wheel part as difficult. Then for the rest with an amplifier and a bluetooth interface you should solve.
