Maybe look up 3D printing to manufacture a new facia with built in vents. Like the facia in the link above, but maybe a bit prettier. Providing the plans were good enough, the thing could look OEM, rather than a DIY job.

EDIT: in fact, that's a really good idea, I might look into it!

+1 on that idea. Just need to brush up on my 3d cad skills.

I did email one company about it and they wanted £500! :o

Maybe if you did the drawings, a company could make it cheaper, who knows.

On Zpost there was a pic of a Z4 E85 with double din, but no air vents though:

If you look above the Nav you can see they have fitted vents in the dash in what looks like a OEM SatNav Housing

Keep up the pics this is interesting. That vid looked like he'd got a moulded part made up from somewhere. I think I'd need to see it from further away and prob in the flesh to make my mind up.

Do these do a sat nav also ?

Do you know someone with a 3d printer? I had some done for work recently and it was not cheap. 2 discs about the size of CDs were 300 quid

I see, well if thats the cost with us supplying the 3d drawing then that.idea may well be disgarded.

if you have the 3d drawings see in a company called protomould.co.uk can help. they have an oline quote system that you upload the drawings into.

As and when a good acceptable design is in prototype I will be able to have them manufactured in small runs, hoping to get a very approx cost later today

Good news assuming a run of 25 each moulding similar to this

6f4ba9ae05c811e1abb01231381b65e3_7.jpg

it would work out at less than £100 and be an exact match to the existing grey plastic colour.

If someone can create it with the vents it would be a little more but again matching colour etc

BTW My user name used to be nfarmer and I have been posting previously regarding clear indicators but the site for some reason wont accept my old login despite attempting to contact the board admin

Sorry to sound stupid but would that be 100 per unit?

Making plastic bits either side as one and then colour coding is an option yes.
Yes it works with the steering wheel controls!

Air vents, I had a play tonight and done this....

There's a few tweaks I still need to do to this top section and I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with it but it thought it worth a play! :D
Oh and yes the vents will work if this is my final choice.

How are you getting on? What's the fm reception like? Mines pants!

I have re-visited the pricing and it will be in the region of £40-£45 per unit plain with no vents

Id be up for adding my name to alist if we could get enough. I quite.like the double din look in the dash.

IMO that totally ruins the lines of the dash, it sticks out way too far, looks like someone has stuck a Sega Game Gear to the dash!!

I have two idea still to play with, but I'm probably going to lose the vent's all together (not 100% though) and go for a smooth look but that follows the lines of the dash 100% and is a colour match to the original grey plastic.
FM reception is fine but I'm not impressed with the frame rate of the HU, not smooth at al!
