First experiences of the M

Mine averages 23mpg over a total of 25k miles, not bad for the performance. My old Alpina did around 27mpg and was almost as quick.

As an experiment I reset the computer on the M62 back from Yarkshire the other day. I found if you keep a fairly steady 70ish and be really nice to it, for just the motorway stint it had averaged 37mpg. Pretty good in my book.

Meant to say in previous posts, how good looking your car looks, i love the coupe, defiently think the Z4 is the best looking Coupe on the market, looked at the 370Z to replace the 350z I have and have to admit i prefer the z4, but he other half is still liking the 370Z. Love the blue, looks better on the coupe than the roadster imo.

Darren how are you finding the gear changes compared to the 3.0, sorry if you have already posted this, have you removed your cdv. Wondered if the M was much different?

Sammyz you are right - i have driven carefully for the last few days and it is returning the mpg some of you guys get. Unfortunatly, it went out of the window this AM when a civic type R thought he was getting past me on the slip road to the motorway, I was trying hard to be good, but at least i have proved to myself it can be reasonably good on the mpg. Also going Oulton Park drifting on Sat so given up the idea of being economical. So back to the 19 mpg, good job a love the car :D

Good stuff. We should enjoy our cars to the max while we still can.

Specs cameras springing up everywhere, taxes and fuel costs escalating, greenies hating us...
Stuff the lot of them and enjoy it before the inevitable arrives and we're all forced to drive milkfloats.... :fuelfire:

Nige. :driving:

How much did you trade it in for Darren?

£15000, which was the same as I was offered over 3 months earlier with 4500 less miles on it against a different M. I thought it was fair and I`m happy with that, given that they also discounted the M for me by a decent amount after I haggled for over a week. Another dealer offered to buy it off of me for just £13500!!!! Private buyers were also offering less than 15000 although one offered 15000 also. It needed a few bodywork touchups (idiot scratches etc done by others) which I got a quote for of £450 back in January. I never did get around to getting the work done but Rybrook can easily sort that themselves at little cost. It was also nearly out of warranty.

I think they might accept £17000 if it doesn`t sell in a few weeks and that will of course include a 1 year warranty.

inuit, as per the gear change I find it totally fine. No worse than the 3.0, if anything slightly better -2nd gear used to be a bit notchy in th 3.0. It might require a little bit more effort to move the gear lever in the M but the gears slot in as easy or slightly better than the 3.0 (in the case of 2nd).

As far as I know the CDV is original and that`s the way it`s going to stay, I`m totallly fine with the way it is. To me everything feels as it should in such a car

Damn you! I'd have been tempted to get another for the other half at that price!

What was the spec?

Only had rear parking sensors and folding mirrors - I tend not to go for fully loaded cars but I wish it did have Xenons. Monti Blue and black leather. When I bought it the car had just one previous owner and only 2200 miles on it. I got it for a decent price in late Dec 2007 (dealer wasn`t selling any cars) but that`s still 7000 depreciation but 31,000 miles of fun however

Ah, yeah I definitely (personally) couldn't have a premium brand car without xenons.

I suppose the £15,000 trade-in price makes more sense now, due to the options. Is your M loaded?

I received a multi-media message from BMW this morning and lone behold it was your old coupe! :o

Kewl

IK, nope the M isn`t fully loaded either, exactly how I like it. It does of course have Xenons. Extras are the sun protected glass (I defo wanted this), bluetooth phone prep (handy but not bothered about) and extended storage (definately was vnot bothered about).

The gearbox in the 3.0si and M are identical - the M-division gearbox used in the E46 M3 wouldn't fit.

It`s there, but have to click the "coming soon" tab. Actuall it is now in the current stock section:

Well over a week in now. One thing that especiallly sticks with me is how great the brakes are and I love the noise they make also.
A colleague walked up to me as i was getting into the car this evening and asked for a lift. Initially I thought "no, you`ll get the passenger side mat dirty" and then "don`t lean on the bolster getting in". However, I gave them a lift. She thought it was a brand new car. First thing I noticed while driving slowly was her nearly going throuhg the window as I braked (the brakes bite easily at very low speed don`t they :) ). And she bobbed around a bit as I was going up through the gears.

Admittedly I don`t like passengers in eiher my previous Z4 or this one. Not sure why, see it as my own personal space I think :). it`s like my bed, only to be shared with certain folks  (and no I prefer that not to be colleagues )

What noise do they make? I prefer my brakes to be silent (if possible)!

I do love how much people love these cars though - always getting comments!

Don`t always feel/hear it, but it`s like a rumble. It`s not intrusive and helps to form the impression that the car can stop on a 10 pence piece - confidence inspiring.

Your car is out on the lot now, noticed it last night ! Seems good value, even with the mileage.

If your brakes "rumble" then I, personnaly, would avoid your car like the Black Death. You have thrashed it & abused it to within an inch of it's life. A car to avoid!!
