First experiences of the M

They all do it apparently, maybe rumble wasn`t the right word to describe it :D

Rumble is how it's described in the M supplement to the drivers manual isn't it? Or perhaps Squeek?

This is how it's mentioned in the Z4M supplement...

...but Mike knows all this already as he's driven/repaired/built/bought/manufactured/designed/wrecked (delete as appropriate) cars like this for infinity and knows that no car should ever make any noise, and knows all dealers/manufacturers/garages/fellow owners (delete as appropriate) are just out to get him :x

Don`t always feel/hear it, but it`s like a rumble. It`s not intrusive and helps to form the impression that the car can stop on a 10 pence piece - confidence inspiring.

If your brakes "rumble" then I, personnaly, would avoid your car like the Black Death. You have thrashed it & abused it to within an inch of it's life. A car to avoid!!

I'll say it before and I'll say it again... he's a tool.

As both you & mmm-five are. Neither of you know anything about the mechanics of your cars. It's rather sad really.

As a "poor" retired man I find it absolutely hilarious to read these constant posts by ignorant individuals asking the most stupid of questions about cars they cannot possibly afford to run. The mere fact of the matter is that an ///M car (apart from insurance & £405 Road Tax) is no more expensive to run than a 1998 Ford Ka!

If you idiots want to pay your local BMW Dealer £650+ just for a £65 oil change (Service 1) then so be it. Then £950+ for the service 2 which is purely an other oil/filter change with a £30 A/C microfilter (not necessary) change along with a check of your valve tappet shims - not necessary until around 70k miles, so be it

You deserve to be ripped off by BMW.

SittingBull?

I do wonder if you think the same about me, "knowing nothing about my car"????
In all your posts, you have yet to say anything that demonstrates YOUR mechanical knowledge.

I too am a "poor" man. I did 24 years in the service of my country, but your comment above is really laughable. Are you sure you are not Enfield????
And since you only (I assume!) seem to be on this board, maybe you need to go to other boards and read their posts about the costs of running a ///M!
I think you would be greatly surprised at the depth of knowledge of these individuals, and they would disagree with you. Though, the costs of running a ///M here in the US is less than in Europe..

Well the last statement finally demonstrated YOUR in-depth knowledge of the S-54 motor. It is a statement of fact and experience that you DO have to do a valve shim adjustment approximately every 24K miles. I researched this fact long and hard before I decided I am going to buy an ///M. The maintenance, while not hard, is time consuming... While, yes, there are cars out there that have never had this procedure accomplished (except at the mandatory 1200 mile point) everyone I have read about or actually talked to who did this maintenance at the 25-30K mile point, had nothing but positive comments about how the car ran after the adjustments. Of course, not all valves needed to have new shimms.

I also really wonder if you really do own a Z4? Since you are "poor", how can you afford it?????

I have never said these next words on this or any forum, but "Please go away".........

Or please stay, if you can knock the chip off your shoulder....

Can't say I've noticed it...but the engine and exhaust sound probably drowns it out.

and to SittingBull - Sounds like you have researched the Z4M inside out but can't afford to buy one, so sit on the forum bagging the Z4M owners out. Seriously - go get another hobby.

I have that feeling also. The words they use give me the impression not of a 52 year old, more likely a teenager who loves the Z4 M or has a parent who owns one.
In any case I ask them to read their own posts and view them as others would view them and what opinion others would form of them through their posts.

Using words like "idiot" and 'ignorant" and assuming owners can`t afford to own them. The psychology of this person is interesting, including his previous comparison of M owners to those living life on the "front line" in Iraq.

I just ask others to not "take the bait", the guy/kid is clearly trying to bait people.

Oh yeah, tto damn right. Why else would you buy an M with all that power for :poke: (sits in corner and waits for SittingBull to take the bait)

I`m enjoying burning up the country lanes in the car. On the way to my current client there are some lovely wide open sweepers with an burger van ideally located beside one of the straights and traffic permitting I`m always tearing up the road past it. Before I get to the burger van there are usually some folks looking down the road as I`m blasting my way up it , including a colleague who loves the sound of the thing approaching and going past.

Definately a keeper! Have no complaints whatsover about the car either.

You sure the burgervan is not an undercover speed trap? You know what they are like nowadays ... :poke:

Good to hear you are enjoying the car, it is always a nice drive in an M.

Ashame you can not hear your own exhaust as you are caked into your biscuit tin :poke: :poke:

This week out of interest I`ve done 290 miles since the last refill and today put in 44litres. OBC MPG has dropped a little to 29.1 thanks to a few traffic jams (and a slightly heavier right foot). The needle was between a quarter and empty (slightly more towards a quarter) and exactly the same as my previous refill when full.
Off to Devon for the weekend to enjoy some coastal and Dartmoor drives and plenty of hiking.

Ban him ?

No way - the guy makes me laugh out loud, whilst at work - getting paid for NOT browsing this forum -- Thats gotta hurt right Mike ? Based on your previous comments you would hate me, I paid a guy to detail my car, get it serviced at the main dealers, know FA about how it works, and i was 23 when I ordered mine - Oh and Im gonna spend my bonus getting it wrapped probably !! On the plus side, I have mates serving the war effort so I sympathise with your comments on the Gov't not looking after our boys...... Thats the only thing I agree with - you are an act on your own....

I nearly forgot, I've reserved this icon for you alone : :tumbleweed:

....Time for some GruppeM/Simota action, pair of cans on the back and watch the kids jump into mummy when you WOT past 'em....hilarious (That ok with you Bully?)
You dont need a roof to enjoy the noise

Can't we keep him? He's funny.

On an internet forum you can choose any persona, be anyone you like. He chose that one! Disagreeable, snooty and annoying. I think that's a work of genius.

You sure you actually bought an /M and not some dressed up hybrid ?

If I reset my OBC at 75mph on the motorway, and sit on cruise control, I get about 32mpg.

As soon as I change speed for any reason, it drops well below 25. I reckon if I accelerated from a standstill at lights down a slip road then sat at 75mph for 2mins constant, mine would be reading about 18

I got 22.9mpg over a 350 mile average on Wednesday, although none of the roads would be classed dual-carriageways or motorways, and I don't think I got into 5th/6th once.

Maybe it`s only running on 3 cylinders. :D
The 29.1mpg average has been taken over the last two weeks (since Monday 20th) and mostly during my commute through single lane country roasd - approx 620 miles of driving (including one weekend). There has been no dual carriageway or motorway driving since I collected the car.

Need to drive harder. I mentioned I`m quite light on a car unless purposely going for blast - which I have also done.

Anyway, I`m impressed. It`s about 2mpg worse than I was getting in the 3.0 so far driving the same route.

Dont start me off again - i am back to averaging just around 20 mpg:( Took it Oulton Park last weekend, drifting - i am useless but it was great fun. Its was a two hour drive up motorway and dual carriage nearly all the way, plus spending the whole day on th track - will post some pics in a separate thread, that weekend i averaged 17 mpg. I have given up caring about the mpg in the M.

I have been offline for a few days and it nice to see our friend back. Reading the posts brigtened a very boring day at work :D

OK I don't know how anyone can get this sort of mpg...lol I do 26miles a day split 50/50 between motorway and town driving. The most I get is 20.5mpg and I'm not driving around like a maniac everywhere. I'm pretty easy on the car.

Think I will give up wondering if its normal or not!
