Ebay advice needed

So as most of you know sold my Canon 7D on ebay a few weeks back 16 Dec to be exact posted next day for next day recorded delivery.

The women has come back to me today 5 Jan and said:

'Tom I recently purchased the above camera from yourself as a xmas gift. I am sorry to say that the camera no longer works. unable t power up. batteries have been bought charged to capacity and tried. Still the camera does not work. I would like to ask you for a full refund for the faulty goods... Email has already been sent to ebay asking them also to try to resolve'

Yet I sold it in perfect working order, and think this is very unfair as she could have done anything with it in that time, she also bought a new battery before getting back to me... sounds like its been out in a rain storm and its been soaked, only thing I can think of unless its been dropped very hard. So she expects me to hand her £600 and me receive the broken camera, and 7Ds are pretty much indestructible.

This vid show how durable they are... set on fire, frozen etc

Where do I stand, and thanks in advance.

I don't think she can come back to you over 2 weeks later, within a couple of days then fair enough, if I had found out something I bought was faulty I would contact the seller immediately to discuss ? :?

I'd check your cover as a seller via eBays directives. Am sure you'll be covered for such eventualities and sounds as though she's either trying it on or was damaged in transit. Do everything by the book and remember to only contact her through eBay.

Ye exactly, I wouldn't sell something faulty and it was in perfect working order the fact its two weeks later. She could have done anything with it.

I also sold it with no returns.

Ye well it was insured for the amount it was sold for, so if it was damaged in transit then she would be covered. But if it was a Christmas present and didnt work on christmas day I think I would have heard from her before now

If I spent £750 on a camera I would test it as soon as I received it, especially if it was a Christmas present. If it didn't work then you'd be hearing from me pretty quick in either case. 2 weeks is a long time - sounds like she's had second thoughts / is a bit skint / has an unwanted present... As inkey$ says, do it by the book. Can eBay provide advice, it do they have to be impartial ? Wonder if you can ask for an independent assessment of the 'fault' from a camera specialist of your choosing ?

I had exactly the same last August but with a HTC phone

The buyer came back 3 weeks later saying it wasn't powering on. We exchanged emails trying to understand the issue in the end I asked him to post it back to me I would then refund their £150 via PP

However he refused and said I should transfer the PP first, which I declined

In the end they nor ebay ever came back to me. I think in my case they got bored of the phone or saw something better which they wanted the £150 for

I've had something similar, but on a much cheaper item. I had my suspicions (the initial one being that the SD card in the returned item was a class 4 one and I had put a class 10 one in it) that the item returned was not the one I sold and my online warranty registration confirmed the serial numbers were different. It didn't help me at the time though as I'd already refunded the buyer.

Not saying this is what happened in your case, but have you got a record of your original serial number to check against?

I'd be very careful... I sold an ipod touch 64gb for £230 2 years ago.

2.5 weeks later buyer said they just tested and it didnt work....

It work when i sent it, was only 2 weeks old as i got an iphone 4 to replace it. Posted special delivery.

I refused to refund it. Buyer created a dispute on ebay... I replied and explained what happened... Ebay sided with the buyer!! Took money out of my paypal account!

I opened up the ipod, was water damage... The sticker was red... Emailed ebay... They still side with the buyer!

I think I will just write my dispute, ebay protects the buyer. I wont be parting with the money as the product was as described and there was no complaint until 3 weeks later.

How long does the dispute take to come through ebay have sent me nothing.

Did you use paypal to take funds? If so, there's very little you can do to stop them taking the money from your bank/account/card if ebay randomly decide against you. It's why I don't use paypal/ebay much anymore and just ask for a small (10%) deposit via paypal and the rest by bank transfer or cash on collection.

However, if you've got an email trail with the buyer saying it was working but now isn't, there should be a good chance you'll be fine.

I had a similar issue with a phone I once sold. Sold in perfect working order after a couple of weeks had an email asking for a refund. I offered to refund half if the seller returned the phone, if it was faulty I would refund the rest. The buyer declined this offer wanting a full refund and opened an eBay dispute. eBay sided with me and I did not have to give a refund and never heard anymore about it.

I always test items before selling them but list no returns. I'd check there feedback out and just reply promptly to any emails from eBay. Do point out you listed the item as none returnable. It does sound like they have broke the camera good luck.

I do hope this goes in your favour but I have my doubts.

Buyer is naughty though contacting eBay before you as well.

Keep us updated.

So they can just take money out of your account!? Surely they have to have permission! Because what if I dont get the camera back!? I will loose the camera and the money.

I certainly wouldn't be refunding any monies after 2 weeks etc. People should understand if they're buying secondhand without any guarantee or warranty then thats the risk you take. If I was the buyer then yes it would peeve me but then I would spend the extra and buy new with a guarantee anyways to take that risk away. Also there are alot of idiots out there who will try all sorts of scams. They might not even return the original camera.

Surely e-bay can't take funds from your paypal account without your consent as it would be theft?

Tim.
