Well that has got me thinking. I was expecting to see the fault showing actually on the screen, not as a pop up.
Just above that you can see the list of modules that are all linked by the K-Bus. I can see SBSL and SBSR, but not the SIM, unless it is out of view in that photo.
If it is not showing in that list then it implies that the module is not communicating correctly.

For me it’s all leading back to the central module not communicating

Good spot Martin btw

Update: another used SIM85 unit is almost impossible to get....so I can't just try another one to code.
But....with the error message from @ponzy, I'm not sure anymore, that's a pretty rare/strange error in the SIM85 unit.

@enuff_zed: after the error message, the SIM85 module "disappears" from the list, until you start over. How to check a proper communication of the unit?
@bigwinn: Faulty central module....hmm.....how to check that? Flashing witn ISTA-P and WinKFP works flawless, DTC read, connecting etcs, too.

By central module, I believe he means the SIM85

I suppose the next question could be; where did you both get your copies of NCS Expert from?
Any chance it's a corrupted version?

Or a newer version?

yes I was wondering that,is there a way of viewing the revision number etc,or do you know of a good link to download again.

when you say newer version ,should i download a newer version, if so how do i find out what version i have now.

I got mine a long time back from Bimmergeeks, but I think they have been threatened with a court order and don't do it any more.
I'm not entirely sure where you would get it from now tbh.

[ref]ponzy[/ref], I know this is a bit of a faff for you, but I am not entirely clear on exactly where it goes wrong for you.
I assume you are using this?
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LdQXN4JM8V0-s6Xa_E9ZeMlkED_i9vpm/edit

If so, can you possibly explain how far you get and exactly which parts you use? (I have to use the alternative method at the bottom of the first page)

hi, yes I have to use the alternative at the bottom of first page as well,I get my error in NCsexpert,F1 F3 choose E85 choose any module, I go for AKMB but have tried ALSZ, F6 back select F4 process ecu, choose sim module, now click read ecu, that's when I get my error.

forgot to say i use Expertmode, but I have used the other profiles as well.
OK,
Is SIM85 showing in the list across the screen at that point?
What happens if you choose say SBSL, or SBSR?
If they read ok then it points to a module error.
If they don't either then it suggests a problem with NCS Expert

SBSL and other units can be coded w/o any issues here.
Only SIM85 seems to cause problems. But it's REALLY strange, that eactly the same error occors on two units....but i'm totally with you, enuff_zed, that it's pointing more and more to a module error.

@ponzy: where do you have your NCSexpert data files from? from which ISTA-P Version?

I am thinking that as [ref]ponzy[/ref] is in the UK, it may be easier for him to source another module to prove/disprove the theory before you go too deep Hans.

have just completed the ncsexpert part to the sbsr module all went OK,do you think I should do the winkfp edit vin flash to the sbsr module and see if the whole process works.

downloaded sp daten files v69 v70 &v71 tried them all, from mac27040 from this forum. Don't have ISTA only Inpa.
