Diffuser

I would really consider the quad exhaust setup. It looks nice and mean. My fiancé, on the other hand, favors the prefacelift setup only because it makes the zed look more luxurious.
 
I so want to add the newer diffuser to mine, but I'll only do it if I do some kind of dual exhaust setup at the same time. A carbon diffuser without dual pipes just doesn't work.

Yes - it's a nice solution and I already have a Hamann on my X5 so know the sound and quality of their kit.

Thanks for the comments so far guys. Current area of investigation is if to relocate the battery, but real work is getting in the way at the moment... :rofl:

I had not appreciated that this trim piece was being described as a 'diffuser' and can see why there is a general preference to the later design, which is more like a 'race' diffuser

Did that come like that? It just looks like an aerokit rear with another hole cut out?

Has anyone tried to attach the newer diffuser onto a pre-facelift bumper? Does anyone know why it can't be done?
 
Mike - not my picture but I think it's just an aero kit with an extra cutout.
Herminator - Current thinking is ///M pipes from mid point down, move the battery and modify and fit a diffuser (£279 +VAT)

Next question guys is do we have a photo of an ///M with its carpet battery cover off?
I'd like to understand the position of the battery fixings and if possible entry and exit points of the main live and earth leads. I also need to understand if the ///M has a separate panel bolted in where the battery box fits on non ///M's or if a different one piece boot floor pan is used?

Sorry for many questions but you all know the way I work on research and I'll eventually put together a 'how to' and options for this.

I agree with Herminator, the facelift aero rear diffuser with quad pipes looks spot on if you go that route... I prefer it to the M Z4 rear setup which is nice, but a bit too shouty about there being quad pipes, and I like the discrete brooding wolf in sheeps clothing appearance more on the fairly svelte efficent Z4 shape...

But I hope CJ realises he'll need a TS2 ESS kit to get away with quads :poke:

Yeah I know and in fact in an earlier post I elluded to that in the longer term plans. :) Anyhow if pretty much any SUV or mid ranged 2.5 or bigger saloon can have twin pipes I see no reason for a 3.0 roadster not the have quads

I can now see how they have packaged it including a flat style compressor. Very easy to replicate

What is under the carpet as per the picture here from the roadster, where you can see the large battery box bolted into the floor pan? (Obviously I have a removable floor panel to get access)

There is nothing except solid floor under my carpet - it's a single piece from one side to the other.

Why not just do something like this? I doubt many people are going to study your cold morning exhaust variances. And once the diffuser is on, it's simply stunning.

Topshelf - cheers. I already have all these pictures and ideas on my desktop fronm searches on the forum :thumbsup: . Femme T (his pictures) and several others have done it this way and with the diffuser looks awesome.

I actually started with the concept of the ///M cover and already have one and the 'T' as the quick and dirty fix, but since I have some new ///M boxes I can probably do a 'proper' job for less if I figure out the battery relocation and then merge a post facelift diffuser into a pre-facelift cover.

The look will be more pleasing too in keeping with the style of car I've developed.
 
Cheers mmm-five - that makes life easy as I can just template it and box it in with a plastic soundproof plate as clearly it's not structural on the roadster in that point, (but strengthed on the Coupe) Keeps it all reversible should the need ever arise
 
I think that looks the absolute business - how much would that cost to do?

Could it be reverted to standard easily at time of sale?

Can you put the diffuser on with just the standard exhaust (and is the diffuser a standard BMW item and if so how much is it)?

It may be cheaper just to swap the car for an //M - and on that note another question - how much more are the //M cars to run? People have noted this, I don't really care about fuel consumption and I would expect the tyres to be no more expensive given they're not run-flats...
 
The one I posted is an OEM BMW part...have the number around here somewhere. It actually is designed for the NON-M, so comes with only the opening on the left side. I think there might be a bit of bumper that needs to be cut off to fit it. Obviously, both of these guys custom cut the second side and fitted the *fake* exhaust. I believe the diffuser is around $500. If I had a bit of money to burn at the moment, I would do this in a heartbeat. Looks 1000x better in my opinion.

I can't tell, but are they actually oval, or are they round but angled ends making them look oval from this angle?

I think as a very slight oval they look a bit more distinctive and less racey... much more in keeping with a non-M car, maybe?!


I do think that back end look is spot on though! I'd do that if I ever went for a supercharger :)
