Diffuser

I'm starting to pull together ideas for a quad pipe conversion and will in the next couple of days, when prices and details of a few more things come in, will post some thoughts for comment.

For now a couple of questions:

I have seen the post facelift diffuser, but mention that there is also a 'prefacelift' version. Has anyone got a picture of one?

Will the post facelift diffuser, fit a pre facelift bumpoer cover? If not why?

Cheers guys :)

Are you talking about the diffuser on the Aero Kit, if so the post facelift version is much nicer, from memory there are pics in the accessory book.

TBH not sure if the facelift one will fit a pre-facelift bumper :scratchhead:

Or pre-facelift aerokit

Think the ///M bumper looks best

But I have a feeling CJ picked up an ///M rear bumper, not sure why you would want the diffuser though :?

OK guys,

I do indeed already have an ///M rear cover on the garage floor and that would be a straight fit aside either change the lights or reprofile the to to fit the prefacelift lights.

Decision is either to do a diffuser kit pre or post facelift or the ///M bumper, def not the aero kit.

At the moment it's all about options and which route I prefer and what I have not seen is a picture of the prefacelift diffuser to judge if it is ugly as I have seen referenced.

Let me not blur this thread into which way I end up going, just info gathering for now, but I'll post a lot more soon.

IMO quad exhaust is just about the most pointless modification. No performance gain and no more improvement in sound than the (aftermarket) dual-exhaust counterpart. And there's the weight increase. Will look silly in the winter when the left-side blows out more steam than the right side. Non-car people don't notice quad exhausts in the first place or could careless. And car people who do recognize them can tell it's not an M and would think you're a poser (despite your intentions) and instantly lose respect for your car.

But of cousre if it makes you happy then that's all that matters.

You see too much into just having 4 exhausts! :P

However GP20 you make the mistake of 'assuming' things. This thread was to gather information on diffusers and not debate if my mod was sensible or not.

Since you raise the subject the modification I make will likely be to relocate the battery in the trunk and split the twin pipes from the resonater to the rear. I already have a set of new twin ///M back boxes on the garage floor ready for this project. It will be built with the possibility of an ESS supercharger down the road.

A 'T' pipe is my least preferred option, but cheap and cheerful and has the downsides you suggest, but can indeed be made to be perfectly equal gas outlet and many aftermarket companies use this route too.

I do not plan to make it look like an ///M, far from it and hence part of the 'diffuser' question.
I seek no massive change in exhaust note nor performance loss/gain
I do like the look of quad pipes as do many others.
Primary reason to keep the car and mod is I don't want an ///M due to it's running costs and the lack of a steptronic auto box

I'm sure the end result will make me happy :)

Ah forgot you got pre facelift rear tail lights, it limits your choice unless you want to change either the lights or modify the bumper.

IMO the pre facelift aero diffuser is horrible and looks like a 3rd party add on, but that maybe as you say just the pictures it may look fine in the fesh but I doubt it somehow.

This is one hell of a car you are developing here, getting more bespoke by the week.

Yes - right. As I really like the look of the lights I have, especially as 'white spot' versions and the round donut brake light, I have to make some bumper mods or compromises.

Sure is a development car and I just love the way it has evolved so far

Don't we have a different fuel tank? And the rear suspension?

Here's the photo of the rear pre facelift diffuser referred to earlier in the thread by anderson

I had not appreciated that this trim piece was being described as a 'diffuser' and can see why there is a general preference to the later design, which is more like a 'race' diffuser

Same fuel tank part number for all models and I have ///M sport suspension anyway (whatever difference that really entails). Reality is if the battery is moved there is enough room in there to get the pipe and a wardrobe...
