I hope you are nowhere near that volcano Mr G, keep safe out there :)
We were about 50 miles away. We could just make out the erruption plume from our patio accross the lake in Rotorua.

Had a few great days in Rotarua.

Took a walk around the gaint red wood plantation. Big old trees, though like every thing in NZ still young. The patterns on the ground as sun shone through the canopy were mezmozizing.

Looks like you are having an amazing trip and the right place for it I visited back in 2005 and 2009 but was staying with friends so did not do the place justice just day trips did manage to get to Rotarua as part of a trip and I did visit white island remember standing looking down the on the crater lake it really is a country you spend a lot of time outdoors as there is so much natural wonder to see

And so to Auckland, our final stop in New Zealand and another great couple of days as our big adventure draws to a close.

So as we sit here in the hotel lobby in Singapore passing time waiting for our flight home and hiding from the torretial rain out side a little time to reflect on what a fantastic adventure it has been. If you have not been to NZ then all I can say is do it. The people are so freindly the service top notch and the country side leaves me lost for words. Our son Edd heard back on his application for a further two years on his work permit a few days ago. Looks like we will be out here again in the future.

One closing picture from Auckland.

A penny for your thoughts Mrs G.

Not sure either of us are tempted by Japan. Yellow stone though.

What an absolutely fantastic time you look like you've had. It was great to catch up in Akaroa, and thanks for the explanation of why you ended up there (I was kind of wondering, but didn't want to ask). Your thread is a great promo for NZ, I'd want to visit if I didn't already live here  . You've reminded me of some of the things to do in my own backyard, although going to the North Island is like an overseas trip for me  .
Having worked and lived in Singapore I have a love for the place (the food, the food, and don't forget the food....) so it was good to see your pics  .
And speaking of pics, that Lumix camera has done a terrific job. It's hard to do some of the scenery justice with a camera, but yours has captured some stunning memories.
If anyone else is heading down this way (and looking at these photos it's easy to see why) let me know - I'm happy for a quick catchup/coffee if you've got the time

Christchurch (and so is forum member scarlet-jester). Drop me a PM if you like, be good to say hi. And if you can squeeze a couple of m-sport seats in your luggage you'll have a friend for life
Sounds like you've been here before, so you probably don't need any 'things to do in the South Island' tips while you're here.

Thanks Shane. Your a lucky chap to live in such a great place. Camera is an Panasonic Lumix TZ200 absulotly bold over by it. Took a while to get control of the thing though. I have everything set up for manually setting up, like my old film camera. Means I can muck up the shots and not blame the computers.
