BuzyG's big Adventure Time to head home.

Great day at Lake Tanaka today. Drove the highest pass in NZ. Realy realy wished I was in the ///MR. A 1.3 ltr auto is fun on the twisties, but it's no E85.

Just kicking back and enjoying the view from the chalet. Life here seems like Cornwall in the 1950s only with all the tech.

Happy days.

Things didn't go according to plan today. An early start to catch a flight out to Milford Sound accross the glaciers was plan A. We arrived to be told, no flying today. I would have driven the 450miles there and back, but alas the road was closed due to an avalanche. :o £700 refund, but a life experience mist. :(

Plan B was to drive up to a local ski resorts and climb to the peak of the mountain above it for a great view accross to Milford sound. Nope the road up to the resort was closed now the season had ended.

So instead we setteled for a few hours in Queenstown town and watched the old dreamers in. Not such a bad place.

Will you have a chance to take the flight another day John? That last pic looks epic 8)

No we asked again this morning before we moved on to mount cook. Still no flying out that way.
At mount cook village now. Took a short walk up to Kia point earlier. Amazing views in every direction.

Mount Cook in the middle. Mount Sefton to the left. I was higher than Pen y Fan looking up at them. :o

Stopped and took this shot on the way here this morning.

Walked the hooker track up to Muller lake with Mrs G today. That got us some amazing views of Mt cook.

Many who ventured up there have not come back. There is a telling memorial to them. Most were in there teens or twenties. :(

Off to pastures new Tommorrow. :driving:

Our last day in the Southern Alps today so we decided to climb a mountain. :o

The easy way.

Looks a bit chilly :o

Major heat wave here Rob. Even at the very top of mount Cook it was above freezing and we where well bellow the top. Tee shirt and a fleece was plenty to keep you warm.

Down to the South coast today and our new base for a few days at Akaroa.

MrsG had wanted to visit here ever since she listened to the adventures of a young girl from port Isac, called Nesta. The first girl ever from the village to go to grammar school. If you ever visit the school. (The Doc martin one) Nesta's name is there on proud display all these years on.
Sadly Nesta died a month or so ago but she enthused so much about Akoroa we had to visit.

Great to meet up with Shane (enzed4) today. Realy nice guy and a lovely Z4. He bravley let me take it for a very sedate spin.30 limit. All the same what a lovey noise sucking that warm NZ air through a pair of cone filltes. The best bit though even 30 it felt planted like a sports car, not what I was expecting from a 35i. Turns out there are coil overs hiding under there. The gearbox still needs to win me over though .

Just occured to me I should have offered you a drive in our car Shane. Next time maybe. :x

Keep the pics coming John, sounds like a great trip. When do you hook up with your son?
Rob
We fly to Wellington for 4 days on Wednesday. Hopefully I get to climb a serious montain the hard way with him whilst we are here too. MrsG will settle for a hug and a hotel spa that day I suspect.

Well a change of venue the past few days, out of the mountains and on to the South coast. So we took a little boat ride this morning and said hello to some of the locals. :)

When I get back I will pull some stills of my videos. Absolutely loved watching the fur seal playing and cooling off. Plus lots of the Dolphins playing around the bow of the boat. Also must mention how delighted I am with the pictures I'm getting on my little Lumix pocket camera. So glad I bought it before the trip.

Word of warning for the uninitiated about the police. Last time I was there I rented a bright red Merc SLK (old one), and it was basically a police magnet! Got one fine for speeding (their limits are very low even in the middle of nowhere!). any long straights relatively near a town seem to have a police car waiting with a speed gun to get you. The locals do flash you though.. which is nice!

We're there in February too - its a popular place.

Keep up the pictures John!

Not much chance of speeding in our little Mazda 1.2 slush box auto. Especially with Mrs G on board.

We did note the most prestigious looking building in Christchurch is the Police station. That says something when you see lots of others still not repaired since the quakes. :?

Well after the hectic itinerary we set our selves on the South island, it's been good to ease the pace a little the last few days. We have Four days to enjoy Wellington, so why not head straight for parliament. :o

No I'm not going all political. Our son enjoys his lunch break hear. Plus it was a nice photo.

From town we took the easy way back to the car at the top of the hill.

And finally a family hug down by the bay. What a bunch of softies we are. :D
