bottomed out today

... assume u have had an alignment, or will that be after all the other suggested wallet opening needs are addressed?

... & who’s is that a Maldives blue Zed in background... - mine !

ok, fitted new m spec springs and shocks, and the bottoming out has stopped, but....today fitted 225/45/18 on the front , did someone say this size is the proper size for the z4m ?
, i ask cus im pretty sure im now scrubbing the left wheel arch...

You aint avin the V2's back (if they are ok with my conciderably more refined zed)

Cheers, tug

so, i compared side by side and the 225/45/18's SERIOUSLY fill the wheel arch to the point in 2 miles it rubbed on the front wheel arch and rubbed the side wheel arch through.
so someone please tell me why with sport suspension and m sport sized 225/45/18 tyres its so wrong somehow, i bought the car with 225/40/18's on ac schnitzer's that were fine.

What wheels are you running now ? What is the offset ? What was the offset of the AC Schnitzers ? Is it only rubbing on one side ? Is it rubbing in a straight line or with full lock applied ? Are you using wheel spacers ? :?

got no idea what the offset is, came with the car with 225/40/18s on with no issues, no spacers. but had no issues driving the 100 miles home when i bought the car. the rear schnitsers have 255/40/18's with no consequence whatsoever
the front alloys are very wide though, probably 8j or even bigger, the 225's are stretched wide and would probably allow 235 or even 245.
the rubbing is front and left on the wheel arch

i have been running mv2;s with 225/40/18 with no issues whatsoever

Any pictures of these wheels? Most likely cause of the rubbing is an offset that's too low. Your options are new tyres (215/45 if you want slightly more sidewall?), new wheels with a higher ET, more camber at the front
More camber at the front should make the car feel a bit keener in the corners

AS I SAID - there was no rubbing with the 225/40/18 tyres on these schnitzers so i will go back to those, but i am perplexed as to why - i will post some pics tomorrow

Remember, a 225x45 will add 11.25mm to the sidewall height vs a 225x40 given ‘45’ is a ratio, eg

Difference is 5, so 225 x .05 = 11.25

Won’t sound too much, though since you’re surrounded by sleeping rozzers this might just be too much - it’s quite well documented people who put M sized alloy/wheels experience rubbing

Hope u find a solution

That's where you're getting confused, M tyres have 11mm more sidewall than standard, you've gone up an aspect from 40

I'm missing something somewhere, my car has new Springs m spec as per Factory spec. I'm also given to understand the z4m fits 225 45 18, now given that every e85 has the same wheelarch... Erm. Do later z4m's have this tyre size. ? Is that the eureka I'm missing ? Bigger wheel arches on later cars???

Yes, I was wanting the extra sidewall for climbing the speed bumps, more height more comfort more clearance. But clearly I have committed a faux pas somewhere. :headbang:

The M has different axles so different offset wheels, different suspension, so what fits on an M doesn't always fit on the lowly zed

Accepted Phil, but are the wheel arches bigger? Cause there is no way they work in my wheel arches , these tyres FILL my wheel arches. And I mean filled. Anyways I have a dilemma now. I have a set of schnitzers with 4 new tyres that I can't use. As I say the 255/45/18 sit Beautifully, with lots of space. Annoying.

Its such a shame ya keep gettin all these annoyin niggles with ya zed mate, but at least your not stuck, i mean ya have your V2's to fall back on while you sort this one out.

I know that you are gonna get some new 40's for the front cos them Shnitserz really do look the dogs on your zed, perfect in my opinion. And you never let the Zed Grems beat you. (not yet anyway)

Go on mate, get some. You know you want to. Just think of the envy you will get on the Wales run 8)

Just don't tell the missus ay

Cheers, tug

ok, gather around.. just taken some pics and looked at them properly for the first time
seems they are 8.5 all round. so not staggered at all. :? :o which is good and bad i think. i am open to suggestions and options which include selling as a complete set of new tyres and alloys to someone who can use them, or even keeping them till my next car.
I know i can put 225/40/18's on and is one of my options
