However one rear was sufficiently twisted in the spoke area to render it un repairable..

Had to order a fresh one..which was only available in the UK in the wrong shade of black..£570 later..

Are they not covered by the replacement program ? I was going to buy some Apex Arc 8 myself .

Actually that’s a good point…

I suspect by the time I’ve bought one at 50% discount and had it shipped to the Uk with freight / duties / customs handling. and VAT it won’t be any cheaper than buying a new one..

But I’ll ask..thanks

I was thinking that they would replace through a UK dealer but if its a case of them shipping from the US then as you say probably not worth it .

I’ll check..I did buy the last one through their UK distribution…

So did the maths…the new wheel in the US was 399 usd list..

Call it 200 usd for a replacement ..

170 usd to ship each way..old one has to be returned …

Assuming no customs charges, VAT etc then it’s going to cost 540 usd to buy a 399 usd wheel at half price..

Another good reason to think twice about buying from US…

Mmmm.....just bought a set from Tegiwa as they had 10% off . So even though you bought them from a UK dealer you have to send them back to the US etc thats not so good .

If you buy them in the UK then I think you return them in the UK so you are good..

Also 'cos I'm pissed off bought some high tensile mother fuckers.. in 12.9 which is about as tough as they come..

https://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/BO_ScrewBolt_Unbrako_SHCap_M6.html

Do not use the grade 12.9 or 10.8 bolts for any application where there can be vibration. They suffer from something called hydrogen embrittlement, so while they are indeed stronger, they are also significantly less ductile and will just shear off instead.

I was checking a wind turbine base that was having the bolts completely shear off and it ended up being due to the vibration and overspeccing the bolts.

Limit to g8.8 if using regular bolts, or look at the manufacturer spec to see what grade they ended up using.

Thnx for the heads up

I think the DCT is pretty turbine smooth..no reciprocating parts in there..well mounted on rubbers..

The 4-10 stainless bolts have arrived..was thinking of using a little screw grade loctite if I use the high tensile bolts ?

My beloved 19” Apex Arc-8s trued out plus a new rear ..all refinished in a nice graphite gray…

New Conti SC7s in 235/35 and 275/30

Thanks to Alloyfix near Newcastle Airport

Will run the 437Ms for a while..

Looks like I’ve misled myself to where the DCT gear box leak was coming from… :tumbleweed:

Found more oil on one corner of the DCT sump pan, despite no oil in it..

Looks like the external fitted filter is leaking…it just so happens that it dribbles down onto the corner of the sump.making it look like a sump leak… :headbang:

5 th attempt to reseat the sump with fresh stronger stainless bolts…

Fortunately the sheared bolt wasn’t tight and unscrewed out with my fingers.

Awaiting new filter with snap ring before trying my luck..

I was thinking about going 35 and 30 rather than 40 and 35 as in my mind they look better but a bit concerned about the possible even harder ride and as already mentioned probable increase in damage to the wheels . Have you always run 35 and 30 ?

On the E89 they maintain the same net rolling radius in the 17/18/19 wheels by proportionally drooomg the aspect ratio and to maintain the DSC’s ability to work properly the same front / back ratio ..within 1%..

I think you have an E85 which I understand generally has a harder ride anyway..

Personally I would use 18” wheels with a 40 front / 35 rear profile ..but..my favourite tyres are only available in 19” and up sizes..

Hope that helps..

Yes an E86 . I have ordered 18`s Apex arc`s so will stick with the 40 35 `s .
Just seen these that seem a good price . I take it they are the same tyre . https://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre/continental-sportcontact-7-225-40-r18-92-y-xl-fr-zr . The rears are a bit more pricey https://speedyswheels.co.uk/deliveredtyres/shop/265-35r18-continental-sportcontact-7-97y-xl . I will have to keep looking :)

Just found them cheaper on Camskill :)

That will work nicely..rolling ratios F/R is close..I usually buy from Camskill for Contis they always seem to be competitive...

They must have added those sizes to their range..when I looked at launch time they didn't have that fitment.. :tumbleweed:

Enjoy the Apex Arc-8s and the SC7s..great combo..if I do say so myself!

Well looks like I (and 3 Indy visits) have been focussed on the wrong area..fluid leaking from external DCT filter then dribbling down making it look like the sump gasket is leaking…

New DCT external filter kit and circlip pliers ordered..

Well fitted new filter , filter cap and circlip…filled with 4 litres of fluid to let it settle …

As can be seen even though the sump is empty the leak gave the impression it was coming from the sump.

If you compare the old cap and its o ring it’s very much flattened compared to the fresh o ring on the new cap..

Took a good tap with the plastic headed hammer to fully seat it to allow the circlip to be fitted..

I’ll let it sit for a day and see..

Looks like the new external filter / cap / o ring fixed the mysterious ‘sump’ leak…

I’ve probably spent over £1,000 on pans, oils, filters to fix this…as well as 3 visits to 2 Indy’s .. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Every day is a learning day

Wow. :o

Despite that you must be glad you've finally solved it.

21 litre of DCTfluid..£20 a litre

One US alloy sump £500

One Polish alloy sump £450

One external filter kit £75

450 miles and 3 days of travelling

£150 in Indy fees..

I’m relieved…was doubting my sanity and the fundamental laws of physics and chemistry..
