Well my attempt at fix in the leak on my DCT sump has proved less than successful..even more annoyed at the “BMW Service Centre’ now…

so it looks like I will have to drop the pan and use some epoxy alloy to fill in the gouge mark in the DCT case caused by the muppet’s screw driver or whatever he used trying to push the sump O ring back into place..I’ll use a bit of Hylomar Blue for belt n braces this time..question…this is how much fluid leaked out over a 5 week period ..it looks bad but a little goes a long way…

I’ve got just two more outings to do in October..do I wait till I’ve done them, then take my time..or do I rush it and maybe botch it..given I’ve got a couple of sump screws that may be tricky to get out?…another £150 worth of DCT fluid ..🙈

Put some fresh cardboard down to see the revised drip rate.. — feeling disappointed.

Yikes.. Sorry to hear that -- I understand the pain. Are you resigned to doing the rest of the work yourself now?

Yes..I think it’s only the jobs where I need to physically remove things like a gearbox / diff or engine now that I’ll leave to others..the height of my garage means it’s not possible to gearbox / engine support under the car …have to say my recent experiences with what you’d expect to be premium garages is very disappointing..

I've decided to SORN the car and start early on with various items that were delayed, things that need fettling etc

Here's a partial list

Repair / update / service

Oil and filter change
DCT gearbox sump repair and refill
Glue some areas of carbon fibre trim that have not stuck well between trim and various units like the heater controls
Check Apex Arc-*s for true and then repaint in graphite gray
Fit new 235/35 19 and 275/30 19 Conti Sports &
Lanoguard the underneath
Update s/w on MMI box
Replace disc in CIC unit with a SSD to avoid random rebooting

Upgrade
Fit IDMotion Instrument cluster https://id4motion.shop/products/digital ... 5980489879
Fit reverse and front cameras to that / MMI box
Fit blind spot warning system to new ID4 cluster
Fit Audiotec Fischer rear subwoofers
Fit Autdiotec Fischer Match 10 DSP amp
Fit uprated EKP low pressure fuel pump controller
Fit M3 dual mass flywheel

Winter comes to the Scottish Borders..

Mass migration to all season and winter tyres for the dailies..the Zed is resting on refurbished 437M in graphite grey with new SC7s..unlikely to be out much over the winter but spring pot holes are a killer ..so forged wheels stand a better chance.

The Apex Arc 8s are off for trueness check and then refurbished in graphite grey with fresh SC7s..

A little left in the old SC7s..3.6mm in 10k old fronts and 2.7mm in 5k rears..but it’s not worth (to me) faffing for 1 or 2 runs.

Plus early spring weather can be wet and 3mm is about it for good water performance…and at 2mm had bad tramlining on the rears…

Please with general wear pattern…with revised geometry ..no uneven wear..

I will keep you in mind if my current alloys develop cracks. Hopefully not yet as they have never been refurbished and no cracks yet. Binned the RFT so hoping to mitigate any damage.

Please don’t tempt me😂

Sadly when I took my Apex Arc-8s to my wheel fix man..

http://www.alloyfix.co.uk/

He’s discovered that one front and one rear have very minor distortion to the inner rim..he was happy to leave them as is but I’ve asked him to true them up…

However one rear was sufficiently twisted in the spoke area to render it un repairable..

Had to order a fresh one..which was only available in the UK in the wrong shade of black..£570 later..

Heh ho..

So that’s 5 wheel deformations in just over a year..must avoid potholes ..

ID4 Motion digital instrument panel..

I’ve looked at both this version and the one from China that mimics the G29 style display.

In the past neither floated my boat.

Both seemed fixed format and limited options.

The lack of s/w support on the Chinese one..evidenced by lack of E89 image in start up display and fuel figures not available in UK gallons per mile plus for me the garish (IMHO) graphics rendered it a no go.

The ID4 version mimicked the old analogue dials but seemed a lot of money for a digital rendition of the original display.

Time moves on ..the company subsequently released several different themes..each of which could be had in a broad palette of colours.

So with Black Friday coming up and in collaboration with another AY 35is owner we negotiated a deal to buy two units and a few bits.

Each theme and colour combo is charged for..so I picked an initial 8 themes / colour combos..plus the support for reversing camera and the blind spot h/w and s/w..

Box arrived yesterday..

Plan to fit it over the next two or three weeks along with the rest of the audio upgrade ..DSP amp and Subs along with front and rear cameras plugged into this and the MMI MOST box..

Impressive mate. Looks very oem👍

That is the hope …every one who has installed one seems super happy…hopefully it’s like the MMI box to the idrive …

We’ll see!

Not a good day..struggled to get the DCT pan completely oil tight.

Last time, a couple of the supplied cap headed sAllen tainless bolts started to gall as I held the torque wrench at a bit of an angle.

Thought I was a clever chappy getting some nice stainless torx headed screws to replace them.

One yielded today...

Learnt the hard way that most stainless unless specified is A2 grade and what I need is A4-10 , about twice as strong..

So bought some fo those, only available in a cap head Allen..

Also 'cos I'm pissed off bought some high tensile mother fuckers.. in 12.9 which is about as tough as they come..

It snapped at 14nm on the way to 18nm..

I’ll leave it till I can get the fresh bolts to avoid contamination…
