Are you a keeper?

I will be using mine for car shows the first being Bournemouth Wheels Festival 24th-26th May... then a few more throughout the summer and that's it. I am currently deciding between a twin turbo 370z, Lotus Exige or Aston Martin V8 Vantage for my next car :D

Yes, I was surprised, I know the Alpina is more economical than the ///M but I would have expected a couple of mpg. Probably down to a fair amount of 'cruising' with the roof up plus the journey between home and Pease Pottage is virtually all fast dual carriageway sat at a constant <cough!> 70mph in 6th - so that would have pulled the average up
 
I sold mine as I really wanted a E92 M3 but I do regret it now as it wasn't the right decision but I am still around as I love this site and its members :thumbsup:

Would love to get a Z4M Coupe at some stage in the future though :driving:

hang on and I'll my flame suit on again... the "rose tinted" people usually have a go at me, they seem to take comments about how I feel about my property as personal insults sometimes.... :rofl: :poke:

OK, so the issues for me, and this is just me... I think it's a good car, but:

It's not fast
The noise isn't good
It's not comfortable the seat/driving position (and probably due to my various issue with legs and hips after my bike crash won't help)
It bounces about all over the road

and as someone who like to be more discrete with things, it's a bit to "show and no go" for me.

And yes, all the above could be updated, changed, modded, time spent on.... but my hearts just not in it... Should I have just bought the MMMM or Alpina version instead of trying to "downscale" with 'just' a low spec 3 litre - probably....

At the end of the day... I prefer my big sledgehammer V8 saloons...

Got to try different things now and again mind you, or you'll never know... :)

Completely agree with that :thumbsup:

Also as lovely as the E86 is the tech in it is getting long in the tooth and cars have moved a long long way forward. Had a lowly 116D the other week and the tech was brilliant so much better than the 2000 system from the E46 M3 which is 14 years old :? Certainly doesn't match its looks. And we talk about mobile phones! If you don't switch within 2 years your old school lol

Wish there was a computer/interface upgrade you could do with older cars.
 
I tend to research my cars before I buy them, so that I don't get itchy feet in 2 weeks.

My average length of ownership (besides snotters while I'm looking/researching) is about 5 years.

No plans to change my routine at the moment.
 
I bought mine new in 2004 with the intention of keeping it for 3 years. That didn't happen as I kept it.

In 2011 I bought a Cayman S and just couldn't bring myself to sell my Z, so I kept it alongside the Porsche.

Now in 2014 I am about to put the Cayman up for sale and still I can't let go of the Z (Anybody fancy an OPC Warrantied Cayman?!)

Mine will never go to another owner. It is worth more to me than the money I would now get for it.

I have even just bought it a set of shiny 108's as a present (Thanks Bing!)

I was in a hire car Volvo the other day...

And between the auto box, lane assist, blind spot checker, adaptive cruise control... the car drove itself down the motorway...

I'm not saying it's right, or I agree with some of the tech, but the difference is amazing to see with some new cars...

even our wee golf bluemotion has amzing adaptive cruise now...

Mind you, the Audi still have Nokia 6310i phones in them... with "snake" to play... 8) 8) 8) 8)
 
I've owned the ///M for three years now and will probably make the decision to sell on or keep this year. It's a high milage (91k) and low value (<10k I guess) car with inspection2 due and a couple of lambda sensors need replaced. The car has been faultless.
What kills me is the £500 tax...I can afford it but hate paying it...my insurance for the next year is only £175!!!

Still, it's probably a long term keeper.
 
What ever you buy in this category is £500, so pay and enjoy or don't bother I suppose. At the end of the day £500 is £10.50 a week.

+1, and as long as it remain reliable there is nothing like the z4mc except maybe a weissman coupe... But that's just a z4mc on steroids

+1 on the comments for trying new things too, would like to try something mid engined, but try explaining that you have a zed for the weekends :)

I bought mine just over four years ago and confess I recently wrote up an advert after I took it off SORN and MOT's it .... but having been using it the last few weeks I'm lovin' it again. It looks and drives like a 2-3 year-old car, the six-pot is still special, nothing's gone wrong, I've ironed out out the squeaks, rattles and blemishes and it's only done 40k miles. It's a way better car than it's valued at so I'd be mad to sell.

It's lookin' like a keeper :thumbsup:

No Flaming here Cueball, but for me personally the challenge of the updates, mods, and changes are the things that intrigue me. I guess what I was saying is at the end of the day when I do get it where I want it I'm sure I will have more in this car than really worth and some of the features could have been found by going a different route when buying the car if I took more time and looked around but I am enjoying the journey just as I did with the ole Harley.

Over the years I have owned a lot of different styles of vehicles from muscle cars of the 60's and 70's to mud slinging 4 wheel drives but I never really got into changing things on them the way I have started with this one, so like the ole 80 Shovelhead I can see me keeping the Zed for special rides and buying something else for my daily ride later on,
