Yeah, I like seeing the mechanicals and all the little details, reminds you how much effort went into designing the car.

£11k sounds a bit strong to me, if there isn't any damage to the drivetrain and only a small number of panels need to be replaced, I can't see how it would run to that.
 
11K does sound high - but when I had the front wing on my wife's 3 series replaced (on insurance after someone back into it) is cost £2500 - that was just a wing and repainting!

So based on those economics - maybe we can see why it's 11K! However, it also probably shows you how a lot of 'written off' vehicles are probably fine and would be no issue at all. If the door was mashed, then this could be a write off, but repaired quite economically and safely by an Indy.

Anyway - hope it gets fixed, don't like to see a car being written off if it doesn't need to be, escpecially a nice one! (sounds like it will be fixed though as the insurance company has already said okay didn;t they Lucy?)
 
oh your poor car, all in bits, well it looks better than just after the crash, fingers crossed it won't be too long before you get it back
 
Where did £11k figure come from.

No way is that over £6k to £7k
Bonnet £1000, bumper cover £600, Headlight £750, Wing £500 Assorted suspension £500. Wheel £250, Say £4k all in £1k spray and £2k of labour tops.

Of course if they want to add recovery and daily car storage and courtesy car hire on, then I bet they can bump it ups a fair bit.
 
I'd agree with something around the £6k mark. As soon as you need to get the panel-matching spray can out you're looking at £2.5k, so chuck in a few components and you're in the right ballpark.

Good to see that the main dealer is doing the work, I thought they tended to staff it out to "approved" bodyshops (i.e. cowboys).

Don't forget i'll need a new airbag unit too. Also 1 sideskirt, and he said the steering rack is getting replaced aswell. Also one of the strut brace bar things under the bonnet was bent in the middle. Can't remember everything off the top of my head but quite a lot is being done on it. They've estimated 10 to 12 days to repair it so there'll be a fair bit in labour.
Half of the parts came in yesterday and the other half is coming today, they are doing the suspension first so that they can move it around, that is coming today so they should be making a start on it soon :)

Yeah the insurance company reccomended a local repair shop (who i'd never even heard of) to do the work in the letter they sent, but i had it taken to Sytners myself and told them it would be getting done there. It's getting done properly.
 
You can demand it goes to a Main BMW repair shop and not a back street cowboy.

Its going to be a long 10-12 days. Our C2 VTS was written off 5 weeks ago today and we're still waiting on money from the insurance and GAP so we can pick up the litte 2009 Suzuki Swift Sport we put a deposit down on 2 weeks ago.
 
Currently driving this until i get the Z4 back! 2009 320d.

It's not a bad car at all, but i can't wait to get mine back. The 3 series is nice but we just don't suit eachother at all. I'm 21 not 51! :P Maybe it would suit me better if it was a 335 with 3 doors instead of 5, oh and a nicer colour, and a manual box, and a petrol engine :lol: Or even better, had an M badge :evil:

Surprisingly it's not as slow as i thought it would be, and the auto box compliments the diesel engine nicely. Oh and it compliments my back and neck injuries too, it's very smooth whereas i think the Z4 would make me more aware that my back hurts if that makes sense. It has 174 bhp which is not too bad for a 'Grandad wagon' as i like to call it (albeit a nice looking Grandad wagon) :) And it's quite enjoyable to drive really (though i won't be trading the Z4 for one!) The fuel economy is good too. I generally do around 250 miles a week and this is 1 full tank at 50 pounds in the Z4. But having had this for 1 week now i haven't even used 20 pounds of diesel yet! And i have been putting my foot down in it too so it seems really cheap to run compared to the Z4 (and i even think the Z4 is decent on fuel considering all the factors like a 3.0 engine, lead foot etc.)

Oh and i'll be making the most of having back doors and seats by being the designated driver taking me and 3 others to a restaurant tonight :lol:
 
We've got a new shape 320d - manual m sport touring. I've tried the auto and the manual is a million times better, both in performance and economy; whilst I would prefer it to a be a 335i (or a 330i) the fact that we can drive to the Alps on one tank of fuel really makes it the perfect family wagon.

AND I'M NOT 51, I'M 31!!!!!!!

Lucy, 21 and driving a Z4, you are doing well for yourself, i'm 45 and have only just been able to afford 1, i had to get rid of the kids and mortgage first hehe

Very nice Exige S2. I had Elise S1, it was just too hardcore for daily use. I only owned it for 3 weeks. :(
 
No good for a familiy guy thats for sure :P

Actually on todays roads its only good for that brief moment on a clear road when you realise the cars potential, you know what I mean :wink:
