ABSOLUTELY GUTTED! ACCIDENT :(

Thanks all for your advice. I'm going to the doctors on Monday. Probably going to put a claim in aswell.

It's a good job i have lost my appetite because i'm not physically well enough to go to the gym (i usually go 5 times a week) so the lack of appetite will make up for the loss of exercise

Now now Lucy, you know that stavation isnt the way forward. Sorry to hear about your accident tho. You should hope that its a write off because if they fix it and you get it back it will lose heaps of its value it could be considered a cat c or d or it will show as being a car that has been in an accident if someone hpi`s it. Any way, get well soon.

Hunter - that can't be correct if the car is given a category C or D then it's because the insurance company decided to write it off or not repair it and later someone else did. It will either be repaired to 'as new' or scrapped. Lucy does not end up with a Category marked car.

I'd venture a guess that 25% to 50% of the cars on the road have had some accident repair during their lifetime and it makes no difference if the repairs are correctly done to OEM spec and warrantied

I agree, I've known that a couple of my cars have previously had paintwork, but as long as it is done well, and not recorded, it's not the end of the world.

Sorry to hear about this, not nice :( Hope you get it back, and soon!

I'd be wanting it written off tbh.
Also i had a 320d auto, 5 door, silver as a courtesy car when mine was in the dealers for the lighting module replacement...thought it was ok really and the auto box complements the diesel engine well. Hve you tried it in sport mode (still auto but revs higher before changing gear) or in semi auto mode (you control the shifts mostly but it does shift for you before you hit any limiter)?

I do have a question for you all in the UK.
This is not an US vs. UK question. Just don't quite understand.

Are your repair prices so much more over there in the UK?
Or are your insurarnce companies more willing to just right it off and be done with it, instead of fixing the problem? It's just easier!!!?????

I mean, looking at the photos, (and yes they can hide a lot of damage,) I would have a hard time seeing this as a write off if it was over here in the US.

Maybe its just a BMW (read German) car stereo type....and they assume it is going to be expensive and not worth the effort.

My father was an Independent Insurance Agent for 40 years. I know a hell of a lot more than most people (over here) about the (US) insurance industry...

Someone educate me!

Lucy, do NOT wait until Monday if the headache continues. An airbag packs a whallop-I know from experience. In the very least, you may have a mild concussion.

Shipkiller,
This is an expensive country and labour is high. Insurance companies will do all they can to repair, but beyond 65% repair to book car value they scrap and negotiate a settlement figure, knowing that car hire, legal costs, storage and a myriad of other factors will push up their costs.

Biggest issue is that say you have a £10k car book figure (not Lucy just a round number) , they will offer perhaps £8k or £9k as a quick settlement. If you dig in you may get the £10k or even a bit more. Problem is that to go find the car will always cost you more say in this instance £12k at a dealer.

Even on a no fault accident you end up losing thousands if it's scrapped.

This is why it is always worthwhile to pay small premium for shortfall insurance if you buy brand new/nearly new car. If the car is written off, shortfall insurance will pay up the difference.

Same here, cj. Daughter was in an accident (not her fault) and the responsible party's insurance totalled her car. Gave her book value. Book value is nothing if the car is older (like hers was). Now SHE has car payments for an accident not her fault.

I really hate insurance companies. (nothing personal, shipkiller)

Shortfall does more than this though, it makes up the difference the the price you paid - so more than just market value of the car you just lost.

Hope everything turns out ok Lucy - horrid thing to happen.

I mean shortfall insurance will pay out the difference between the purchase price of the car and the motor insurance pay-off.

Lucy,
sorry to hear about this but you walked away which is the most important thing. Hope it all sorts itself out without too much hassle. If it's a write off I can see you in a new 3 litre Z4, black with red leather, all the options including a heated steering wheel. and the roof goes down . :)

I m worried about the van ?

He's made a bit of a mess of his front end but no where near as bad as mine. His is driveable. He managed to drive it to the side of the road. He'll just need new bumpers and things on the front.
I was joking really ! Could nt give a monkeys chuff really about an old vauxhall combo whan its imparted that sort of damage to a lovely car

... and I'll be giving you a few pennies for your old seats and wheel ;) so not all bad eh :poke:

Hope your headache has gone... been a long one! :o

Hey Lucy, Just been reading through all the threads again tonight and had nt realised last night when reading that you had joined the "Kiss the air bag club" I had one of those things smack me in the moosh in the Porsche and I have a neck like a pit prop, but I felt it for a day or two
It has been said by experts that if an airbag were to hit in you in the face full on with your haed not travelling forward under inertia, then it could brake your neck... remember they deploy via a pyrotechnic charge. now consider the combined speed of your face travelling forward with that of the airbag coming towards you I THINK THAT IS YOUR HEADACHE AND DIZZINESS
If you leave till Monday to get checked any insurance company might raise an eyebrow if it comes to light that there was a lapse in time between incident and hospital justified or not
Get yourself looked at ASAP
PS ( If no one else is prepared to ... you can trust me I m a doctor !!!!! :poke: )

I think Lucy could make a lot of money off her seats (if they are sport seats) with the demand for them. Because lets face it. I want em too.

Now, which seats are you referring to? The car's...or her's?

Wow, be happy you're alive and will get another car. That could have been disastrous. Glad you're ok. If they write it off, I hope you get a decent car out of it.
