68k 2006 (56) ///M roadster £13k SOLD

Congrats too! I wonder what the world record is for someone repeatedly buying the same model of car?
Mind you, didn't old sultan of brunei buy seven mclaren F1s, one colour for each day (natch), so I guess there are probably a few high rollers to contend with here. Nice to see someone convinced in the product though it must be said :)

You know the past few weeks i have studied very long & very hard the real options on offer for those wanting to leave the Z world & £ for £ there is little to compare with them for build , style & ownership pleasure .
Not just the M , also the Si ( now for sale at 3.0 Se money so why would you buy the earlier one :( sorry) & almost all the E89s too .
A pal is about to buy a 2008 decent spec decent kept 90k Si roady for £4500  its peanuts & unlikely to fleece you like a boxster would & be more involving than a TT would
There's a forum E89 2.0 Msport on here for £9k 72k , ok its not going to rip your trousers off handling wise but remap it & it will pull very very well , be cheap to tax & hit 40mpg whilst still looking like a £20k car
For now i will continue to enjoy the Si coupe & ponder my options

Agreed, although an early boxster with some money set aside for some tasty mods would be an appealing choice to me these days in the sub 10k bracket.
It's a great platform though for sure the e85/6 with looks and ingredients that just aren't available much elsewhere anymore sadly, and then
the e89 just seems to offer so much for the ask if you're after that kind of thing.

Right now bang for buck low(ish) tax band & decent mpg the twin turbo 89s look unrivalled , the well documented issues (hpfp , injectors
, adaptive shocks) aren't Porsche money to cure , as in £4k would sort them all if you were that unlucky , they come well specd & don't handle too badly if you get involved & accept they are larger cars & not supposed to be like E85 E86 .
I will post up a quandry ive been having , feel free to add your thoughts as they could open my eyes to something i can't see

I recently drove a very nice E89 3.5is - rapid and the power delivery is seemless. It was completely different to my M however, as a GT / every day car it would be hard to beat!

Congrats it does look a lovely car

I think if you made the jump you wouldn't look back. Life's too short as they say and sometimes worth is more than a number.

Surprised you haven't jumped on one of these cheap M coupes thought that would have your name all over it.

There lays the hurdle that has me thinking Cayman M2 or 911 are not for me
Come 6-30am on a summer Sunday when I like to slope off for a drive I just don't see the appetite for it with a fixed roof car :( enjoying the Si coupe through winter but it's a different ownership to a roadster.

997 vert i reckon...

981 Boxster...

E92 M3 vert

M2 are good, drive well and go great, interior trim is gasharama though, and that N55 is throwing the odd wobbler now.

M4's are getting cheap but there is always loads for sale.

Maybe go for Z4M coupe or 35is ? You love the Z's so may as well complete the set with the top model from each era?

The E92 verts have had a fair amount of positive press recently slated on launch people starting to warm to them and <50k mile cars for <£17k they are quite a paletable option. One round the corner from me very tempted to go have a test drive...

If you catch the E92 M3 in a decent cycle of its life it could be a shrewd buy..

Get caught out with one that needs rod bearings, actuators and brakes though and it could get costly quickly.

You ever driven one?

They’re heavy cars mate.

now, i know there is a bit of difference between my 2006 2,0 zed and this one, but 10,000 pounds difference seems insane :o

My dad has the coupe for 2-3 years and tbh it was a bit meh compared to the e46 but bit of a different car more grown up comfortable and less chuckable.

They are about 200kg heavier but at the end of the day similar to the e89 if you want a fast a-b that seats more than 2 that you can use all year round with the folding hard top it’s not a bad option. Plus there isn’t much under 20k that gives that level of use the e46 vert is a horrendous car you can literally feel the chassis wobble over every bump.

Those kind of cars like my 4s the experience is complexly different.the noise of the induction and exhaust is really incredible vs a coupe

When I was a bit younger I thought the same with no compromise low weight and stiff but really if you think of actual use and priorities not one of my own cars will see a track and the weight aspect is much less of an issue. Unless it’s designed specifically as a roadster then there are always compromises and really there aren’t that many big engined roadsters around.

Or a market research analyst for BMW with a mission to test the resilience of E85/6’s

Congratulations, Andy! Will be interesting to see if the new owner makes himself known on the Forum and is up for a drive with the 'Kent Chapter'.
