Good to see I have sparked some healthy debate, which is always good.
Seems some have misconstrued my comment about a local car, Mr Andy of Argyle was spot on...what I meant was I am always going to miss out on a car to a trader unless itās almost on my doorstep. Take the one I mentioned in my mixed tyres post. It was a 33k miler, on at Ā£8950, it appeared on AT on Sunday afternoon. I immediately contacted the seller, he replied fairly quickly and I established the car was in Bournemouth, he said he would send me base details of the car and service information that evening. Which he did, I asked him a couple of further questions, he said he would answer those and volunteered to send me copies of the service history etc on the Monday morning. For my part I replied thanking him and telling him if what he sends me on the Monday morning checked out I would come down in Tuesday to view and buy. Bournemouth isnāt going to win me the my journeys further than your journey competition, but it is a 5 hour journey.
He duly sent me through the info I asked for on Monday morning which all looked good. Then within 30 minutes of the first email arriving, while I was working on train times and before Iād even had a chance to offer him a deposit, he sent me a further mail saying, sorry but I just sold it to a local dealer.
No doubt I will get the chance to buy that same car in a few days with 3 new tyres, my guess is at... what do we think £11,500?
Far from not being prepared to travel, I had a discussion with gwatson about his white one in Aberdeenshire (at least I can buy a ticket and try to win that one

) I was the first to enquire into the black one that a newbie posted on here recently in Altrincham. Incidentally that one was Ā£11k odd as recall, it sold before any of us got the chance to ask a question and appeared on a dealers forecourt a few days later at Ā£14k odd. There have been several others all over the U.K. I did draw a line at trying to get Mr Silverstar to sell me his from the Costaās. Although Mrs Boris said sheād get it for me...but sheād be two weeks
I get the dealer has overheads, often a dealer car is the sensible option, I have bought many cars from dealers. I get you pays your money you takes your choice, but at the end of the day like everyone else I worked hard for my money and I want value for it. I think in the main the comments above show an understanding of where I am coming from. There should be plenty of good Ā£9 or Ā£10k cars out there and I would like to pay just that for them, I am not going to pay Ā£2-3k beyond that because a dealer now has that car on his forecourt and has given it a tickle, and put a Ā£250 warranty on it. I think somebody above mentioned itās a simple case of supply and demand, you are spot and I am refusing to buy at those prices, thatās exactly how supply and demand works I beilieve.
