Hi,

I have finally got round to getting the squeaking panel off my car, which has solved the annoying squeak I was getting each time I had the roof down on bumpy roads!

But at some point I need to put the panel back on, as the car looks really stupid without it....

Would someone mind telling me exactly where to apply felt tape? I can see the there are wear marks to the three plastic bits in the middle of the catch, maybe I should apply felt tape there?

I had the panel off mine yesterday to try an stop the squeak.
The only place i could see any point where there was any rubbing was the place as you pointed out.
I have stuck some velcro on the finger that sticks up,also sprayed teflon on the springs and in the lock.
As yet i have not had a chance to drive the car with the top down.

Wel... I'm pleased to say that I have applied felt tape to as much of the underside of the panel as I could. See pictures below. I also applied it to the finger that sticks up (not part of the pictured panel) which I could see was rubbing against the three plastic bits in the middle of the catch.

THE SQUEAK HAS GONE!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOOOOO! Only took me 1.5 years to fix! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Good job mate, I have the same problem with my Zed. I've been meaning to do this fix for a while, but have trouble removing the panel. The lower clips come off ok, but the upper ones are proving a pain. How did you manage to remove it without breaking anything?? :)

The way i removed mine was to slide a flat blade screwdriver under the edge of the panel.Push back and twist the screwdriver gently easing the panel up,do this either side.

Just pull it up while moving it from side to side...it will snap out...if it breaks...what the hell, just buy a new one...

Like the others say, lots of gentle pulling and twisting and the panel eventually came free!

treat as a woman plenty of T.L.C. all over and she will respond forget to look after and she will go wrong. good is once a month give her a good seeing to with a oil can. :driving:

Nice fix camcc. Been meaning to investigate my squeak for a while. Now I know it's a simple one I'll have to do it.

AAAARGH the squeak has returned!!! :headbang:

I will be taking the panel off again in a few weekends time to re-investigate....
