I was ill a few weeks back and in my sickness induced delirium I bought this:

I'm pretty chuffed with it, but the girlfriend is yet to be convinced... :driving:

I like it  but unless you put a space between the Z and the 4 you may get pulled.

Given the shonky, illegal plates and the driving for that matter round here, he will be fine.........he'll just need to remember to stick to the new 20mph limit then they'll not have an excuse to pull him and maybe point out the plates :P

Have you told the gf about some of the cars at work? She should be glad you've just bought a number plate and you've not fallen into the lets all buy new cars game that seems be going on in that office at the mo.

Yeh, don't worry, I got it printed with the space in the middle, bit annoying, but I already have 6 points so can't really risk it. I'm saving the last 6 points for something fun. :)

Heh, no I don't get to look in the garage at work much. I see a few Lambos coming out every now and again, maybe I need to buy a bike so they will let me park it in there and I can have a proper snoop! :D

Good man, maybe wait until you've got 3 to add another 6 :P

Ha, just go for a look. Used to be some proper random stuff in the old place, cars just stored there like ferarris, old DB5 etc. The white Lambo is my other halfs mates car. Both seem to moan about it, something about not being suited to Edinburgh roads......ya think!

The one I wanted was A11 ANS - my name. It's not available anymore, but was a little out of my reach at £43k or so anyway...

years back i knew a lady called Alana and she had that for a plate, A1 ANA. She sold if for a deposit for a house if I recall correctly

Think i may pay 1K on a plate if it was my name specific, but not my car, change the car and its meaningless.

What if u never intended on getting rid of your car?
Or what if it was part of a collection?

what if someone ploughed into it forcing your hand?

as above any plate i buy has to be personal to myself or the mrs and has to be dateless.

some of the plates in OP went for crazy cheap, others weren't even worth mentioning.

HRZ 4 for example for £1600 is stupidly cheap as is DEZ 46 for £350, everyone knows a Des/Dez and you could easily find a rich one willing to pay £3000+ for such a plate.

As for Z4 plates it would have to be Z 4 or ZED 4 or BMZ 4 and the likes to be called a Z4 plate. XFZ 40 is not what I would call a Z 4 plate far from it.

Except there are no bids yet!

Nice plate, but you could buy an E86 for what the seller is looking for! And it isn't like there are going to be any buyers of new E86s years after BMW stopped making them!

Grudgingly concede M3 or X5 plates do at least have a future - maybe I need to look for a plate with Z5 in it!

I see that on a regular basis crossing the Severn Bridge. (On a 1 series BMW at the moment)

Not when it comes to Number Plates !

I am really tempted to buy this plate but it's pricey at £1655 and means I'll be stuck with 35is's forever. It could be worse I suppose...

Never pay the asking price from these agencies. They will advertise a plate for years, so know that once they get a sniff, they need to do a deal.

If it suits you, you can afford it and you are going to keep it, thats fine. But you've got to consider how re-saleable it is, when it's so specific, should you ever want to move it on.

Thanks for that No.5.. I may make an offer. You seem to know your stuff concerning plates. What would you estimate its value to be?

I wasn't buying for investment purposes purely because it contains my name and would suit the toy.

Difficult question ! If you've just won the Euro lottery, pay the £1600 and don't mess about. However, if you've got a 3.5iS as a 'toy' you're obviously not doing a paper-round and on the Giro !

If it was that personal to me, I'd be happy to get it into 3 figures but if you rang the agency and offered it back for sale the following week, I would expect them to be offering you about £700-£800 for it. (Just my opinion)

* And for Gods sake, don't mention the 3.5iS before doing the deal !!

I appreciate it was a tricky question. I understand how prestigious number plates are valued but not so much at the lower end and Irish style.

Really appreciate your opinion price wise.

 Yep that goes without saying.
