Still have to take your hands off the wheel. Shouldn't have to and didn't in the e89 so they can do it.
It annoying enough for me to not use the paddles at all

Maybe it's an age thing too.

Totally agree on the paddle size, they're silly tiny, as on the E89. I bought a pair of Fezz 355 paddles off the bay to extend my 35is paddles outwards and lengthways.
