I dont understand the obsession with mileage.

Maybe having always driving old jap cars ive always discarded mileage as a consideration for purchase. I remember buying my mk1 mx5 and I didnt even know the mileage, Im sure i glanced at it in the advert but then had to actually check when i viewed the car when i got there as I had forgotten. Turns out it was 133,000 which was a mix of KM and Miles due to being an import. Still didnt care. Just made sure the sills werent rusty. Checked everything as you would normally on a car etc.j

Its seems certain marquees and forums have varying degrees of boners over mileage, Ive seen loads of comments on peoples for sale threads whinging about mileage, "i would only pay that if it was -xxxx miles less" etc. It seems pretty prevalent around here, Do people genuinely believe cars mysteriously fall apart when they hit 100,000 miles? that buying a car with 50,000 miles means they want have any issues?

If anything the higher mileage cars will already have had replaced the stuff that wears with mileage, Brake lines, Suspension bushes etc. Buying a low mileage car without these done just means you will probably have to pay for it at some point on top of increased price for buying the "low miles" car, Then all you have left as a bonus for a low mileage car is you also get to put "low miles" in your for sale advert.

Sure lower mileage car is preferable but in terms of choosing a car to buy i wouldnt even put in top 3 of my considerations.
I also dont see how the coupe is a mileage sensitive. Its a pretty bombproof engine, No reports of chassis rust etc. No known common serious issues (i.e K series headgaskets, clio 197 gearboxes etc). Things wear and tear as per normal but I would say the coupe was the opposite of mileage sensitive.

Yep, I bought a nice low mileage (19k) 3litre e89 & look where it got me!

I agree with you for the most part; we have all heard of people sourcing a low mileage car only for it to develop problems (I'm thinking of Smartbear recently and I know of others). Any secondhand car is a gamble, but if you buy one on low miles (and its not a lemon) and you clock up the miles over the years then sure, you end up with a high miler, but those are all your miles - you know its service history, MOTs and any issues. So although the mileage on mine is climbing (currently on 52k) in my head its still sort of on the mileage when I bought it 34,000.
I remember talking to the previous keeper and finding out all about his ownership so that gave me peace of mind too. I plan to keep mine for many years so it could well climb up to 100k miles, but because they will be mainly my miles I will be ok with that, and if I decide to sell the new owner will have a file full of documentation and will be buying off a fastidious owner who has cherished the car :)

If you want a manual coupe, than for me, it would have to be the Z4MC (they don't cost much more than the 3.0). Not sure how you come to that conclusion (and "then" may well be the right word in place of "than"!

Which makes the 3.0si coupe more desirable as an auto than a manual imo

"Well not IMO! It isn't some sort of diesel barge! "

And I really doubt I'm the only one with this opinion.
Maybe not, but you may well be in a minority!

Just wondering, but is your non-M Coupe one of those rare (unloved) autos by any chance.......

How did you guess.

Ok.... Here's another reason for the nonbelievers.

Those buying the coupe are in their 40-50's. Mainly. The younger lads/girls aren't interested in older cars because there's such a huge selection of hip new hot hatches, small engines, nippy, easier to insure and kitted out with all the latest "i" gear.

Therefore 40-50's = old knees = auto.
Trust me.

I'm 24 and I'm looking at getting an auto coupe  the flappy paddles do it for me
I definitely will miss the fun of heel-toeing though

That along with spending 4/5 years commuting around London... Can't hack the manual myself either. Can't hack traffic either TBH lol. Might have to buy a bike for the daily and leave the Zed for weekend fun!

OK, that is fair enough (mind you I'm 50-60 so older knees than yours).

But if nothing else it does mean there may be a Z4 for me when I enter my next decade (which isn't too many years away)!

Mind you I'll still have to get in and out of the car - maybe then an E85 will be in order so I can lower the roof before I try to get in!

Mr Tidy. I wasn't clear. I mean't those in their forties and fifties. Of which I'm in the same decade as you.

So yes, soon I'll be buying a roadster, a hoist, and a stannah stair lift.

I'm with all the way on this. Not only more desirable, but rarer as well.

My knee thing dates back to a bike crash in my teens. I've driven auto now for about fifteen years and have no intent to go back to waving my left leg around again. Auto boxes have come a long way - the difference between my 1988 E30 Auto and my E86 Auto is huge. But both are great fun. :driving:

Looks like a good example. exhaust tips and the carbon engine cover point to an enthusiast owner at some point.

I`ve seen the different coloured engine covers and wasn`t sure if it was a cosmetic thing or something different in the engine spec.

And on Jamies car when the dealer says `must sell this weekend`which weekend does he mean as the ad has been saying this for quite a while.

Its just cosmetic

[post]1370077[/post] having an auto coupe and an M roadster i can say the coupe is far nicer to drive

...............COUPE - THE BEST LOOKIN Z4 BY FARSENIOR MEMBER OF THE EXCLUSIVE COUPE CLUB...............NOT FOR HAIRDRESSERS

I think your signature says it all!

So what you really need is an auto M Coupe.

I own a high mileage coupe and don't see the issue, the car is lovely and drives great.
Many e46 3 series (which share a lot of parts) are running up 200k with no issues with minimal effect on the values.

Sadly due to an issue with my buyer I am still struggling to sell mine.
