Firstly, spending money on a car on repairs that need doing does not add the same value as the outlay.

Secondly, for an enthusiast to claim they had no interest in the insurance write off marker of their cherised car is quite simply laughable.

Thirdly, calling forum members "lonely incel internet conspiracy lovers" because they are pointing out the absurdity of your valuations and other issues with the cars is pathetic beyond belief and screams a tantrum toddler mentality. You're not Donald Trump by any chance are you?

Fourthly, how did I miss this last night? You are comedy gold.

Push the “think” mode button on before posting. I am an enthusiast and I love my cars so when someone hit one while it was parked, I didn’t think twice and decided to keep it and bring it back to roadworthy even though the sensible thing would have been to do the opposite. Also because it’s only one of maybe 10 Phoenix Yellow examples in the whole country, the main reason for me buying it in the first place. So I wanted to save it.

Yes, I didn’t care about whatever cat status it would have, because I had zero interest in the market value. I have love for the car, not for how much it’s worth. Obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t spend over 3 times it’s value to restore it.

Now exactly for the same reason I’m hoping there’s another enthusiast here that can understand the amount of money spent and wants to step in, because I’d hate it going to a scrapyard.

Pity you didn’t take your own advice before writing your (free) ad and setting your valuations.

Sorry, send over the bank details so I can reward you for being a lifer and pay the “no bystanders hijacking a potential sale with ridiculous nitpicking” tax.

No one has nitpicked, just given a fair assessment of the two cars and their valuations.

I doubt anyone will be asking for your bank details though.

To break down my “aspirational” asking prices..

Let’s take the roadster as example:

- the cheapest 3.0si Sport currently for sale on AutoTrader is 5000£. One with similar mileage to mine is 6500£.
- the car went through 7000£ of extensive restoration from Munich Legends in 2022, arguably the best specialist garage for vintage BMWs in the country (can show invoice). My instruction was “do everything the car needs, no concerns about cost”
- the car was completely repainted (another 5000£) by another vintage car specialist garage, The Village Garage in 2024
- the car got new wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tyres that only were used for a few hundred miles

So I think that a fresh coat of paint and lots of new bits under the hood and inside, new wheels and tyres are all worth asking a little premium, as someone will inherit 14k£ worth of repairs and upgrades spent in the last 24 months

So I really don’t think that 7500 ASKING BUT VERY NEGOTIABLE price is as ridiculous as you guys make it

I’d offer £3k for the yellow one if interested. Being a cat car etc

I may have missed it but what’s service history like?

This is a general question as I would like to know the answer if anyone can help please.
Looking at these two cars I can see that the later 57-plate has a silver top engine, but the earlier 07-plate has a black top.
I was led to believe that the black top superseded the silver top version.
Was there a cross-over period?

OP, I assume both cars have the original engines?

As far as I know yes. Might it be that coupe and roadster had two different lines? Just a suggestion. Also sometimes cars get registered a bit later, it might be that 57 was actually built before 07 and had to wait a bit to get a license plate

Hello twozfour,

Please remember the membership of this forum is very young (childish) to very old (senile). A little research may have led you to expect the responses that you have got. Nevertheless, there are some genuine bargain hunters around, especially as it seems you may be genuinely keen to accept offers for your cars.

FYI there were 32 phoenix yellow 3.0Si roadsters registered in the UK, of which 28 were manual. There are 4 in your exact (rather boring tbh) spec of aluminium trim and Oregon black leather.

They were registered between Aug 2005 and Jul 2006, which means all of them should have silver top engines.

Phoenix is a bit of marmite colour, with some lovers and haters. I would love a PY car, but preferably a coupe.

As a guide, and you can verify this on Autotrader, “cat” cars tend to attract prices 25-30% lower than the equivalent non-cat car. This can make a cat car a bargain if you are buying it for the long term, but most buyers will want to know they can get most of their money back if they decide to sell it.

If you want to attract serious enquiries on here, for either car, I suggest you post up their service histories, the invoices for work done, pictures of the accident damage, pictures of the car being repainted (there’s a big difference between a poorly prepped repaint and a quality respray) and pictures of the current damage.

Then people can make their own informed estimates about value, rather than criticising your approach.

If you really want these cars gone in a hurry, they’ll go at what they are worth.

Thank you for the very helpful comment. I know there’s a website that shows how many cars still on the road but I don’t think it lists the body colour too. I wonder how many of those 28 manuals still survive.

As of this time last year, 85% of the total population of UK registered Si Z4s (i.e. 2.5Si, 3.0Si roadster and coupe) had survived, which is pretty impressive for a model 15-19 years old. This is partly based on the www.howmanyleft.com data, which does not have a colour breakdown, but you could take a reasonable guess at 20-24 manual PY roadsters still being registered.

That's interesting? :?

I’ve made arrangements with a friend in Europe that wants the yellow car. 3k was a decent offer and very appreciated but still a pity for me. I’d rather give the car to a friend that will pay me whatever he feels like (and surely more). So not technically sold yet, but within a month I’ll most likely drive the PY roadster to its next European owner.

Good for you.
However, would it really have hurt you to let bigwinn know?

Guys seriously please, the amount of pettiness here is off the charts. bigwinn sent me a PM yesterday. I replied that I was busy (as I am, planning a move out of the country in few days) but that I'd send over the details he asked for (history, invoices etc) later in the evening. It's all stuff I need to dig for in old emails. Ended up not having time to do it yesterday evening and then when I logged in this morning he had already retracted his offer.

My friend only said "I'll take it" as he knows the car and the history and didn't even have time to agree on price. I just trust him, happy for the car and whatever money I'll get is fine (but still surely more than bigwinn offer).

As soon as I saw this thread posted, I just knew it was going to be trouble. Threads like this one always are.
To be fair to the OP, though, he hasn't thrown his toys out and started calling everyone names (which is invariably the case).

First time for everything, I enjoy it when people call you names :poke:
