Wtf..?

At the lights with a Mk I Mazda 3 MPS today, damn that is a quick car...

I was in my manual 3.0i and it was neck and neck all the way, to quite a fair old speed

Was a car I was looking at before the Z4, so know it's quick but first time I've been next to one. Still glad I chose the Z4, looks nicer than a family hatchback with a bodykit and big turbo, still respect it tho :)

Still disappointed with myself, I shouldn't get involved in these things because points don't mean prizes on the road...

Hate ? that's quite a strong term - and also smacks a little of pigeon holing rather a lot of people - how about someone who drives both a Z4 and an Audi ? is that not the attitude that historically get's some (non Z4) BMW drivers the image they sometimes deserve - like describing lane 3 of a motorway as "the BMW lane"

Not being a Ferrari driver - but I do rather wonder just what you mean by "old fart" - there may well be a few Z4 drivers fitting your criteria and regular highly regarded contributors on here.

Yes indeed when i was thinking of buying a bmw again after a 15 year absance i did also think to my self that when i get one will i be able to drive it like all the other bmw drivers on the road (a compleat w4nk3r) but it now seems that the tw@ up your ass is always an Audi driver not a Bmw.
Perhaps you are like the bmw drivers of old and when i say OLD!!! Most the men i see in my home town of Solihull in Z4's are old gray haired men tyring to cling on to their youth!
:D :D

I made the mistake of racing a Ducati last month, lasted about 2 seconds..! Now I know to let bikes pass....

Good run with a Clio Sport this afternoon (they're quick..!) until the poor chap's girlfriend visibly gave him a hard time & he pulled into inside lane.

Rain forecast tomorrow so it's garage for the Z & back in the Golf for the Sunday lunch drive. 2.0fsi but sooo slow..!

 I love it ,however , those focus RSs are dam quick , :D

Not quick enough against an M, I'd wager... 8)

Stats reckon the M is 0.3 of a second quicker 0 to 60 , nothing in it .

It's a bit more than that. M 0-62 5.0 versus Focus RS 5.8. I've had two white MkII Focus RS's trying it on and two white mk II Ford Focus RS's left with their tails well and truly between their legs. Unless it's been re-mapped they're well out of their depth.

What a strange post.

Maybe I'm missing the humour of above posts, but don't get the 'old' comments.

Pigeoning drivers by what car they drive is also out of touch - I regularly drive a Golf, Audi A4, Megane and the Z...

To me it makes no difference if it's someone 20 or 70 driving a Z. For those 'older' drivers driving sports cars, fair play to them - hope I'll be doing the same in a few years :-)

Older and wiser, young and stupid. With a bit of luck these terms could be used to describe most of us at some stage or other in our lives ;-)

I've already done young and stupid...

Oh, and I own an Audi and a BMW.

I love it when you're on a sportsbike and someone in a car thinks that their car is quick. (snigger).
:P
I've sat at the lights next to Porsches/Caterhams etc (and ahem M Roadsters) where the owners are under some god-like illusion of quickness.

I never feel the need to race anything in my car anymore. I just smile and let them have their brief moment of glory. But on a bike, they just need to be taught! :D :D
I notice the bikers just shoot off on the straights and then hold me up around the corners :poke:

Especially if last weekend at the 'Ring was anything to go by, where only one bike overtook me in 40 (very warm & dry) laps

What he ^ said! ...but minus the Nurburgring bit..

I dont give chase to bikers now though after a chat with a mate who has one, he explained to me that it makes them very nervous to have a car right up their bottom and if something goes wrong they may very well get run over which to be perfectly honest is something that I had never thought of before.

As for the traffic light GP, i think gookah has it right, most dont really think they'll "win" they just wan't to have a play. I mean i do the same if i encounter a Ferrari for example, i know i'm not going to win i just want to see it driven in anger and hear its bellow... but all the Ferrari driver sees is a cocky BMW owner who thinks he can overtake anyone. Oh well. :|

Good points - well made.

-i'm just referring to the traffic light GP. There's no question that we are all more fearless in a car than when on bike (and therefore do agree with mmm-five re circuit). A bent car is easier to recover from than a broken body. Bikers don't want to get into situations where a car is 'chasing them' and has to keep checking their mirrors.

I don't get the Ferrari/old driver stuff here. We are ALL getting older everyday, just because someone is old and drives a Ferrari, - so what? - i'm really sure that they are worried what someone in a 'mid range' (lets be honest here) BMW is thinking/doing..

ah just seen he comes from Solihull

Yep, pesky tuned clios on slicks that do 3 laps of the track then have to cool down before melting. I just let them past...

I don't see why age should make a difference to what sort of car you drive. Just because you drive a sports car above a certain age, does it really mean you're trying to cling on to your youth?

Instead of being insulting to people who have been much more active and valued members of this community than you have, why not post something which isn't a load of drivel?

I agree - I'm very new on here, but as far as I can tell age has nothing to do with this forum. We're here because of a shared love of Zs (even the ones you can't getthe lid off), end of.

That said, 'old farts' are the probably the only people who can be trusted with something as beautiful as a Ferrari - I had the chance to drive one on a track day at Rockingham last year, and I am positive that if I'd had one when I was in my early 20's & much less experienced I'd have killed it, and possibly myself, before I got it home.

Sorry this has all got out of hand!! my 1st post to the question was
"I also get Audi's driving like tw@s when i'm out on me Ducati, i hate Audi drivers but if i ever see a Ferrari out on the road with some old fart driving, there fair game!!1"
It was not ment to insult anyone on the forum!
You know some time when you wish you had never bothered!!! :(
