Winter storage :o(

Our house is in a cull de sac, at the bottom of a hill. when it snows, after a day or so the main roads at the top are fine...but you cant get out of our house cos its not gritted.

Funny you mention that Tim about dealer storage....last year, with the two 1'ers I changed them over myself, but it took ages and I'm lazy, so this year was thinking of getting them to do Deb's car. Although I could just take them to a tyre fitter etc. Or DIY again....one car not so bad.

Same here Kevin, end of a cul-de-sac on a slight up hill gradient which was enough stop the 1er when it snowed. If you do get the dealer to swap the wheels over ask them for the full price if you ask then to store your summers. BMWs advertised price of £30 wheel storage is not quite true, as it depends where they store them. With me they had to store the summer wheels at the BMW depot at Bracknell, so wanted £30 to take them, £30 to bring them back and £30 to swap the wheels. I bought the winter alloys and tyres off e-bay but when I came to swap them myself I couldn't undo the wheel nuts as they had been put on at the factory when new and wouldn't budge.

Another one here in a cul de sac at the bottom of a hill - Do they plan it that way?

Thats another reason the Zed stays in the garage and the Disco 3 with winters gets used.
I reckon once youve used winter rubber you wont ever go without again.

Could never face putting my Z into storage - makes me smile every day I drive her (rain or shine or snow!). But bit the bullet yesterday & ordered a set of winter tyres on star spoke 290 alloys & Bridgestone Blizzaks from BMW (they're shipping them over from Germany next week). I'm going to take the storage option for my other wheels - my dealer states that the cost is: nothing up front, £30 to bring them back, & approx. £25 to carry out the re-balance & fitting.

Out of interest whats the package costing?

Alloy Wheels Direct are charging £1825 :o

£1600 inc VAT - sounds a bit better when I say £400 a corner!

Winter tyres fitted this morning & I can deffiniately feel the difference! Bring on the snow!!

You will be surprised how much difference they make and how much better than the summer runflats which are disasterous in the cold. Alot more reasuring too when it does snow as you know you won't get stranded.

Dont want to rain on your parade but no matter what tyres you have fitted, youre just as stuck as the vehicle in front of you! :)

We don't tend to get snow in London, at worst, only one day a year.....this will be my 2nd Christmas without my Range Rover and not really worried.....

I drove my other beemers in the snow on summer tires as well, couldn't stop laughing! Couldn't really drive straight either though :D

Even without winter tyres, I'm still driving it... carefully :-)

Same here. Always have always will. Got an old 4x4 if it gets really covered in snow. Z4 just stays on the drive if not. The Z4 is treated like a working dog, not a show poodle! :P

Not worth the risk in my book without some decent winters on, as I said earlier I've been caught out on a nice sunny winters day and we had a blizzard and had to abandon the car, however this was on summer runflats, so your better off using your 4x4 all winter and laying the Zed up.

Still there are those who claim to be miracle drivers on forums :)
