wow thats impressive. i clocked up those miles in the last two weeks with work..... i have currently 8k on mine since collecting it from new in april. gonna run it all through the winter and get as many miles on it as i can :D

luckily i get 40p a mile with my new job and a small monthly car allowance..... no point buying a second car, until the weather gets really bad.... but loving the heated seats and steering wheel on those cold mornings :D

Are you fitting any winter tyres Envy? The runflats will be rubbish once temps drop below 7deg or so and a cm of snow will have your zed doing douhnuts :|

In 2010 I had the 1 Series M sport on 18" runflats and got stuck with minimum snow fall, last year I put winter tyres on and it didn't snow

Tim.

Below 7??? I drive my zed as a daily driver all year round on rum flats. Its absolutely fine. As long as you try to avoid the snow, low temps are fine. Basically it just comes down to common sense, breaking distances and nit being daft in the corners. I'm afraid I don't get the putting your car away thing in October. If you must do it, surely that's for Jan and Feb??? what about all the clear crisp days that you'll miss???

It not a Ferrari .... :D

There's no way mine is being tucked up til spring. I bought it to drive it and as long as the roads are safe enough, that's what I'll do.
I've got a freelander for bad weather but it'll only get used when it's too bad for the zed.

Yepp your Zed will have summer runflats on so theyre performance in cold weather is pretty much compromised in almost every respect. The hard rubber compound of runflats is made alot worse as temps drop so lessening grip. How do you manage to avoid the snow lol? For me its just not worth the hassle, either garage the car or fit tyres to do the job.

I agree about common sense etc but no amount of that will help in ice and snow with rear wheel drive and runflats.

Luckily I have another Zed fitted with something more suitable for the season :) so the Z4 can be kept off the road and used in the summer.

873 miles since april! I have done more than that since the beginning of the month... And I have a second car for work!!!!
+1

Z comes out when the sun comes out regardless of season. Great drive today. PH Run tommorow, but that will be in my little Mazda, cos it looks like a damp start.

I see a Z3 hiding on the drive there is that one aloud out for a little winter sun?

I used to think that Carol, but the unpredictability of this countrys weather means leaving the house in the morning clear and dry and driving through a blizzard and getting stuck by lunchtime :) Not much good if you left the Freelander at home and took the Zed lol.

I would have used the Z4 for winter but I wasn't paying £1500 for a set of 17" winter runflats as would prefer to stick with runflats on the Zed. I would hate to bump the Zed and no amount of driver skill will save you once you've lost grip at speed :(

Yepp the Z3 will be the winter motor, fitted with suitable tyres :)

Can't argue with that. Stupid bloody weather in this country. You never know what it's going to do.

Last winter I bought a set of winter wheels for the 1 Series and it never snowed :headbang:

Tim don't forget to leave the handbrake off if you're not going to move the car for a while, I made that mistake many years ago and it was a nightmare to release

i will run mine as long as i can.... my work place is only 2 miles from my house but i have to do long motorway journeys to get to other sites about 3-4 times a week

i always drive carefully as its my runaround too and not a fair weather only car. so i rarely put my foot down and just drive along according to weather conditions, traffic and what mood i'm in :)

Thanks Darren :) I've done the handbrake but a bit odd doing it as at first I switched the engine off and EPB wouldn't release. It did a few days ago with the engine and ignition off but not this time. Anyways turned the engine on released the brake and switched off again lol.

Only thing I forgot to do was put a sock over the exhaust tail pipes :?

Mine should have been garaged last week but it's booked in for a service.
Then it will need a good wash and dry with the dehumidifier cranked up.
Should give me a good chance to give it a good polish and wax over the winter.

Ctek is a must.

I remember last spring wheeling her out and falling in love all over again

Thats one of the plusses for me as I tend to get bored of a car fairly quickly so putting it away for a few months rekindles the interest, its like having a new car again in the spring :)

Big advantage in my opinion.

Just looking at all the different models online - which one do you use? MXS 3.6 looks like the obvious choice (£ vs function)

That one will be fine Reevsie, it looks like the replacement for mine which is the 3600.

Only thing I have found with them is the length of cable between the crocodile clips could be a tad longer as the positive and negative charge terminals under the bonnet are at opposite ends of the engine bay. Mine will only just connect to each terminal. I don't understand why BMW put the points so far apart :headbang:

Tim.

Tim - I was looking at using the 'cigarette lighter adaptor' in lieu of the croc clips - just seemed a lot easier!
