hi guys,

Quick question to see if anybody can help. I need to replace my complete roof / electronics / hydraulics etc for my 2003 Z4, I have found a breakers yard that has a complete roof with all bits from a 2006 model, does anyone know if the newer roof would fit in my car?

Thanks in advance

Have a look on http://www.realoem.com for the respective models...

Here's 2 I looked at (instinctively selected RHD):
E85 Z4 2.5i

E85 Z4 3.0si

If you run this and select your car and the donor car and compare the detailed view side by side.

When I click on the folding top the part numbers appear to be the same. The motor may appear different as BMW introduced a sealed unit for later models (to avoid failures due to submersion in water)... I believe this can be fitted to an early model Z4. But I would check.

If you don't mind, what happened to your old roof that you need all of this?

Thanks for that, very helpful. I've had a quick look and some of the part numbers are different but I'm wondering if it's just newer (improved / modified) for the later model. As far as the problem goes, long and painful story. In Sept 07 I opened the roof on a nice sunny day, it opened as usual, a little later went to close it, it groaned took a while and then stopped half way. I manually closed it. I decided to get it fixed and took it to an indie BMW dealer I use for some things, he ordered the motor, the big day came, I dropped it in, a couple hours later he called to say they needed some special part or tool or something (sounds suspect to me)and wouldn't be able to do it. He didn't charge me anything and I just collected the car. I bit the bullet and booked it in with the local stealer, in between taking it in I had opened it a few times manually and once it just wouldn't shut, I gently as possible tried to close it and heard something crunch and it didn't sound good). I took it to the stealer, they called me a couple hours later to say I had to come in and take a look, shock and horror the whole frame has cracked open on both sides of the car. They said they found it like that and stopped work on it and have quoted me a whopping 5000 euros to replace the roof. So here I am and the only viable option is to buy a second hand roof and have somebody install it for me. I have seen them on sale for around 300 - 400 pounds in the UK and then I have to ship it to Spain so with labour I reckon I should be able to have it all working for around 800 I think. It's been a real nightmare, I'm hoping I'll catch a break now and with some luck get a working roof again very soon.
