Roof wouldn't go back up.

Hi all,
Its been a fair few years since if been on the Forum as I had to sell my previous Z4, to help fund a house purchase. (Always regretted selling it)

Anyway, my wife purchased a red 2.0 G29 (2019 - Standard at present) in April 2024. (Warranty expired in April 2025)
All was going well until Wednesday when the roof refused to go back up after her drive home.
The passengers side "flap" adjacent to the roof raised as normal, however the drivers side stayed in position and the roof would therefore not raise.
All the BMW Indi garages (Newcastle Upon Tyne) stated they couldn't get me in for circa 2 weeks. Given I don't have an accessible garage and the weather here is about to turn a bit wet, I had to bite the bullet and visit the Main Dealer / Stealer.
All in all £150 for Investigation / fault finding and manual raising of the roof so at least we now have the car back.

Invoice reads as follows - Investigated roof not closing - found fault for right roof motor line disconnection. Carried out manual release of roof, roof able to move manually, however when operating with switch the left hand side moves but the right hand side doesn't. Access to the roof motor required to confirm fault"

Now the tough part, I have been quoted approx £1200 labour from the main dealer, as the roof needs to be completely taken off to gain access, and if the motor is buggered its approx £650 for the motor.
Obviously, I'm not going to go down this route unless I'm completely forced to. and even then I would take it to a trusted Indi who's price would hopefully be a little less severe on the pocket.

Before doing anything I thought I would see if any of the forum members had experienced the same issue, and what course of action they took.

Hopefully someone out there can help / advise.

Cheers,
Fat Fella.

Yeah, wish I'd thought about the warranty idea, but I was forced to go to the stealers and now the issue is registered with BMW.
If anyone has had the same experience it would be great to hear. Failing that its going back to the Main Stealer that I bought it from, and politely ask them if the motor is designed to fail after 5 years and then present owners with a £2k bill. I'm not that hopeful that BMW will do anything, but probably worth a shot prior to going down the Indi route.

Help please.......
