why the hell buy a roadster/drop top?

Due to the motor failure on mine and the shortage of the necessary to get it fixed, mine doesn't get to come down if its a short trip and its difficult to lift up and down on your own for fear of putting to much weight onto one side..... saying that i have done it manually a few times recently 8)

Drove with the top down yesterday, and today I am burnt, as badly burnt toast. :(

Should have used the coupe  :poke:

Leave some suncream in the car :poke:

We had a burst of sunshine for around 3 days back in may if I remember and had to drive around with the roof up. The micro switch's had it and was waiting for a new one so sometimes one doesn't have a choice ! :x
However now that's all sorted it's strictly roof down driving only ! :dance2:

Saw 3 Zeds in sunny Lichfield this morning and pleased to report they were all topless (including mine :) )

Only time the roof is up at the moment is when parked as some idiot will usually drop litter or something in it

sun out any time of the year = roof down.

But I agree with Sars, if you have been on a very long hoon and have burnt to a cinder then roof up and air con on for the last blast home is very relaxing. The interior of the Zed is a very nice place to be and it's occasionally nice to relax and listen to the expensive sound system without the roar of the wind as a background.

Windows up or down when topless?

I seem to spend most of the time with them up, but only so my hair doesn't look like a bird's nest! I'd much prefer them down, and I think the car looks better with them down as well.

Do any of you roadster drivers have the top down with the air con on lol?!

Why is that a lol?
I have the aircon on cos it blows cool air on me.
Just the same as I have the heater on when its cold.
but the roof is still down

Saying aircon doesnt work with the roof down is like saying the heater doesnt either.
Yes, both are more efficient with the roof up, but that doesn't stop it having an effect when the roof is down..

I also see many 'verts inexplicably all closed up in fine weather. No doubt everyone has an excuse.

I have my own list of excuses, though I have the top down probably more than many.
1) Too cold. Have to drive a few miles until the heater works before lowering. Unless it's well below freezing, then the top stays up the whole time.
2) Too hot. Around 28C the air con goes on, don't care if it mostly gets blown out, it helps. (Mostly directed to the floor vents helps) At around 33C, it's unbearable, even with air con. Top goes up. Factor in the fact that at 2000m elevation, the sun is VERY intense.
3) Extreme headwind. Just too noisy. I'm thinking nearly 100mph speed differential.
4) Busy urban motorway. Just too noisy, again.
5) Extreme short trip. I almost never park and leave the roof open (mainly because seats get too hot) If I'm just running a mile down the road to run another errand, I may leave it up. I have an irrational fear of wearing out the motor, even though it may be worse to not use it. No way to explain irrational.
6) Very long trip. Not an excuse in itself, but tolerance thresholds above are lowered so that top is usually not down the entire day, it's just a bit too tiring.

Ultimately, still just excuses. But if conditions are too extreme to truly enjoy the top down, then why do it? It's my experience that matters, not yours. Everyone has their own definition of good experience, they do not always match others.

150 + miles from Somerset to Derbyshire

, 70 mph....(ahem officer) top down the whole way 37mpg!

Who said Zed' aren't practical?

I picked up a hitch hiker yesterday, top down, his grin was an end in itself. He insisted on taking my photograph because otherwise his mates wouldn't believe him. Quite unexpectedly, he was an opera singer, but was too bashful to give me a tune. That would have made my day.

Brilliant

Good work Finisterre. Crazy to think some people in adulthood have never had the joy of travelling topless.

Good to see that the general consensus on here is that if it's dry the roof is down. I have the irrational fear of wearing the motor out as well so don't put it down for short start stop journeys where I'm going to be parking. However, I see people doing a similar commute to me on a beautiful morning and they have the top up. They are probably going to sit in an office in front of a computer all day. Let the air in while you can you miserable sods, it might even put a smile on your face.

When I first hit the notion of wanting a roadster I started noticing this phenomenon. I thought my idea of confiscating roadsters that weren't being used was quite original... Clearly not :D

Great minds Mowflow

...and I reckon these southern softies have lost the ability to appreciate fresh air and no precipitation, irrespective of temperature 8)
