What you need to ask is why libya ? why not somolia ? zimbabwe ? oh thats right no oil !

Not quite the complete story.
The UN didn't have any support from the neighbouring countries in Africa to support any punative measures against Mugabe.

Whereas in Libya's case - the Arab League and the African Nations all want something done. 8)

US of A - as the UK doesn't have a naval aviation capability any more

We still have plenty Tornadoes and Typhoons and we have influence in Malta.
So it's just a short hop to Malta for refuelling and the UK will be the first into the fray.
And remember, we have experience at this sort of thing - we enforced the no fly zone over Iraq to protect the Kurds.

.....and when can we expect to see the first losses from the Arab League or African Nations? Who's going to cop the backlash once the first civilian collateral is broadcast? This is all too little too late time we should keep our nose out for once.

You seem to think that I approve of this policy of intervention - au contraire.

Took the opportunity whilst Mr C was on his way to Paris to take the car in and get some pics in the sun.
Crowds didnt know quite what to make of this old unusual car leaving the house.
Guards loved it though!

What you need to ask is why libya ? why not somolia ? zimbabwe ? oh thats right no oil ! i went to the the first oil war or should we call it the nato arms test ? yes gaddafi is a murdering s**t but so was sadman hussein (not a spelling eror ) he was a sad b , if any of your sons/relatives are in the armed forces would you betting on them going ? sarajevo was brutal and like i said gulf 1 was a weapons test why oh why does the uk think its a player as it has been pointed out above there is no real capacity for naval/air support if the usa wants to be the worlds policeman god help us

Of course the west will go to war over oil. What is the alternative? All of us on this forum drive a car that does not get the utmost in fuel economy. ESP those M models. The tree huggers & social utopia types protest all sources of power. No nuke plants. They protest against wind power, Cause it MIGHT block the migratory path of a bird & they're ugly. They protest coal because it makes CO2, They protest hydro electric dams because it makes the fish cross due to having to use a fish ladder to spawn. So there goes full electric cars. Hydrogen? Takes a lot of electricity to split water into oxygen & hydrogen, Be rather difficult without any new sources of electricity. The USA has lots of oil under it's feet. But again it's the protesters preventing anybody getting to that oil.

So, Those of you that complain about the wars associated with oil. Is there a car in your drive instead of bicycles? Do you use things made of plastics? Do you eat? Do you fill your tank up just to go for a drive in the country? It really really sucks that we HAVE to go to war over oil. If we want to see what the problem is. Just look in a mirror. If you lead an oil free life, then you have earned the right to complain about wars over oil.

Sorry about the rant. It upsets me when people complain about a problem. Especially when they are part of the problem, And don't offer a viable solution to the problem they complain about. But then again. It mostly comes down to politics. I guess it's all good fun poking a finger in the eye of western civilization.

If it's all about "oil", why is Canada in there? We have more than enough oil, we can supply more than most people even realize . Oil and clean water, they will be the reason for the last war on this planet.
We are there because we are members of NATO and the UN. Political instability, possible insurrection supported by Iran, support for world terrorism for the last 40 years, mass murder of civilians.....that is why we are in there.

Here's a link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_oil_production

Libya is 18th on the list, right after the UK.

I read this yesterday and thought to myself you may be endangering the lives of your pilots. Now it's public knowledge so not a problem any more.
From where i sit, just really glad the West still has the balls to oppose the wholesale slaughter of civilians by the maddest man in power, except for Rob Mugabe of course. Having said that, the fact that action is only taken if strategic minerals are at stake leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Now the Arab league have pulled their backing stating that the Allies attacks are much more than they had understood a no fly zone to be. I was up for this intervention with those folks on board....now I'm not so sure what we have started.

That's all good then
Now let's hope they kick Gadaffi's backside till his nose bleeds.

I just hope it's over & done with soon. Its been playing hell with my ability to play Dragonage 2.

Side note, I do actually care about what's going on and hope it stops.

+1. :(

I mean the rebels are not going to win a goldfish at a funfair FFS, but then Daffy's army is weaker than it should be because of his paranoia.....but he's not going to just walk IMHO....

Whatever he does, it will still leave a big divide of some kind and no effective government, so miserable times ahead for the general population.

I think the rebels made such good headway at the beginning because the govt troops are plain old bullies, when someone started shooting back they ran away, then they got the heavy stuff out and came back, when the Coalition took out the air and some heavy ground stuff the first ones crying for a ceasefire were the Govt troops....not the Govt, the troops.
It all depends on the rebels now, if they organize and find weapons they will do fine....if not, it will be hell for a long long time.
