Wheel Opinions Needed

Wheel.jpg

This is the only other picture I have but I think it is the same as above.
I will try and get some tomorrow afternoon in the light if it's not too wet. As CJ says, they take on differant colours/appearances in all lights and angles. I'm really pleased with them.
The center is black.

i think CJ and ben. are talking my kind of style. OEM style wheels with an individual finish.

the shade of both your wheels i think would compliment the car while not being too black/dark, it provides contrast while not standing out to much as the OEM silver does.
i think im heading towards a middle tone/flash chrome.

probably the only question i have is do i keep the inner rim polished bare, polished and waxed metal or paint and lacquer them?

Inner rim? If you mean the behind the spokes then I went for a standard silver. Frankly it's not that visible and dirts up real quick. The biz. is the original diamond cut lacquered inner finish but that's a real pain to keep up.

The outer lip. I suggest choose between Ben's paint finish or a polished and lacquer. Both have merits, but I'm sure we'd agree that bare metal is too vulnerable and unless you polish them weekly it will tarnish really quick... I know as I tried it for a month before giving up.

have you had any corrosion to the bit behind the spokes? i think il paint them black to hide the dirt a little.

Not since I stripped and sprayed them silver. Look at any diamond cut though and you'll see the creeping cancer under the lacquer

yeah, thats the only reservation i had was doing all of that work and having to do it again in 6 months.

i think the best was is probably to do the main rim DIY, and then get the 'star' done by a pro because of the contours, bolt holes etc.

That's what I did. The stars are the real pro's piece and they are where the eye focusses. Strip them down take the stars to a specialist and have a go at the rest.

Tip - dot punch each star and rim pair '.' to '....', in a hidden place, so you can rebuild original sets and not mix them up

ben's wheels look great! Rudd, i wouldnt go for black stars as it makes the rims look really small, i had a set with black stars and sold them on because they just didnt look right...

Am liking Ben's wheel job very much,a great job and not too expensive either. The black centres are a great idea, they only get covered in sh*te anyway.

good tip! i was thinking of a way of keeping them the same but hadnt thought of that.

im going to go for black inner rim (behind spokes), polished outer edge (possibly without lacquer as my brother has bare metal and they look great with a little polish every now and again), and a shadow chrome/flash chrome powdercoat jobby by a pro for the star insert. its kind of what i had in mind in the first place apart from the shadow/flash chrome was going to be gunmetal paint, so a big improvement

to finish a full set of carbon fibre badges for the car, iv wanted them since i got it but never had an excuse :P

il do a write up for all of the help and to help anyone looking to do it in the future.

any tips or new ideas are still most welcome!

Guys - it has taken me a few days to get around to cleaning the wheels for some pictures. Here are a few..
I'm trying to show that they take on differant effects from differant angles.

The inner Rim is black, all the wheel is powder coated.

Rudd, if you are anywhere near South Shields over the weekend, give me a shout as I'm there :D .
