It's great that you got to choose the option you wanted rather than have someone impose a descision on you.
Once it's all fixed between the insurers and the work you have had done before the accident the whole car would have been gone through and it will be perfect.
You might still be up for the record of the longest coupe owner as well!

I wouldn't consider either of the shunts 'heavy' - and I've been in bigger shunts as a passenger where we've still driven away. But I guess small shunts in newer cars cause more damage as they're built to provide more protection to the occupants by sacrificing themselves.
The lorry incident was nothing more than his mudgard/rear light pod scraping along the car, so no chassis/suspension damage - cost less than £2k to his insurer (plus the £3.5k of e92 M3 hire costs
).I even felt this current one was a relatively minor impact as none of the airbags went off, and most of the 60mph I was doing was scrubbed as I went sideways across the 4 lanes and tapped the barrier. In the last seconds I thought I'd not even make it to the barrier. There was no heavy impact or crunching sound and before I'd driven it the 50 yards to the refuge I was expecting to just drive it away with some dented panels. If it wasn't for the rear wheel being at such an angle, and scraping in the arch, I probably would have driven it home.
Once I get it back, I will have a daily use Z4MC with mostly new panels - once I get the dent out of the bonnet of course (which I may ask the bodyshop to sort while it is in there) - and a car I know the complete history of from 9,300 miles
If I'd have thought I could get more for the car then I might have taken it, but his initial £9300 was better than I was expecting (based on what I'd seen on the CAP/Glass guides).
His assumption was that I could claim 100% of the price of the mods I'd done (Bilsteins, Gruppe-M, Rogue Diablos), but nothing for the 'maintenance' (i.e. diff, clutch, flywheel, cooling pack, poly-bushes, engine mounts).
So I'd still have been left with using most of the money for a 100,000 mile 'flimper-spec' car with Continental M3 tyres, then having to find another £4k for mods, and another £4k when the diff/clutch/flywheel/etc. needed doing - and I still wouldn't know if that car had been in an accident and repaired like mine. At least all my 'indiscretions' are posted on here for all to see.
I suppose I could have waited for a repaired Cat C/D Z4MC in the right spec to come along at £8k and then done the mods, but that could have been a long wait
My thoughts over last weekend (when I still hadn't got a call back) were that if it was written off, then I'd take some time out of M ownership and get a decent turbo-diesel on lease or 2nd hand and rent out a Caterham for UK tracks and Swift at the 'Ring.

Got to love insurance companies. Make sure you keep on top of them during the repair stages as they are well known for dragging their heels throughout the whole process. Either way hopefully you get your pride and joy back in rude health.

I'm really pleased for you and totally understand you wanting it fixed, I'd be the same with mine seeing as I've had it from near new. I know it inside out and it holds many happy memories!

Would be interested to know how they do this, if they do it. I didn't have any luck finding a shop that would fix a double-skinned aluminium bonnet when mine got dented (they all suggested fill and spray), so I had to source a new one. I think it needs heat, studs (to pull) and maybe some specialist tools.

Didn't know it was double-skinned, but I think I might be lucky as the dent is just above an access hole in the supporting frame. I guess I'm more likely to get a 1.0 Corsa or Viva than a fire-breathing Monaro, but we'll see.

No courtesy car for me yet, as the bodyshop doesn't have any available at the moment, but 'might' have one available 'sometime next week'

Shocking, what does your policy wording state? Might be worth doing some reading and making some formal complaints and a possible threat of ombudsman action...Could help to force their hand on the matter.
Courtesy car is provided 'where available' as I didn't pay the extra £20 premium for the enhanced courtesy car cover.simonlpearce said:

Just caught up on all this, really sorry to hear of all of this mmm-five. After all that cash sorting it last year then this happens, very bad luck... Good that it seems you handled the whole crash situation itself really well, but sorry to hear how this is being dragged out now and you're getting terrible service. Think the financial ombudsman deal with sort of thing. The frustrating thing is not getting any answers to quite straightforward questions...

Terrible bad luck to get your pride and joy trashed because of someone else's error. At least no injuries tho . I doubt very much if insurance company will bother with further enquiries as that will cost them more money and very hard to prove anything without independent witnesses. It will I fear be a claim on your own insurance, had a similar thing when someone drove into my daughter and wife sopped at a t junction with handbrake on, he took her front end off , all apologies at the time then left the scene and said daughter had pulled out in front of him! Insurance company said even if we took him to court privately he could just be a convincing liar and win so they weren't interested in trying to prove it was his fault so knock for knock and she lost 700 quid excess and her no claims bonus due to that c@nt!,, I see so many people on the motorways driving within a half second of other vehicles in all weathers with no margin for error should anything happen, I now treat the two second rule as the three second rule and feel that at least gives more time to react to events up ahead. It doesn't however allow for the idiots who like your mondeo man do stupid and unpredictable things because they are not driving ahead of themselves. Hope things end up all sorted for you.
I've already been told it'll be a fault claim against my own insurance, as there is no video or witnesses and I couldn't even provide 1 character of the reg plate.
I am not happy, but that's what it's there for, and have accepted the fact that I'll be screwed by the insurance industry for a few years.

Is it worth buying a cheap car and selling on after repairs have been completed?

Good luck with the repairs, hopefully turn out better than before with any little marks that you wouldn't have bothered with now done . Just caught up on this as been away in Australia and noticed that when we had torrential rain near the hunter valley most of the vehicles pull over , stop and put their hazards on, imagine that happening at Maidenhead junction m4 on a Monday morning ? ... I don't think so, white van man would just floor it more as less cars in his way !!!
