What's the book value of a 150k mile Z4MC...

Now what about a 55plate 120d Sport 97k for a daily beater ?
Just happen to have one sat in garage looking for a new home

I was expecting this thread to bring out the vultures claiming parts of my car in readiness for it being written off, but not for it to turn into a sales pitch :poke:

I will keep you in mind, but as my work comes in 6-month chunks at each location, and I don't know whether it is viable to drive to these locations, I was really either looking for a sub-£200/month lease, or a throw-away snotter of less than £2k

I might even get away with not having to buy anything as my mother is thinking of getting rid of her beast of a Hyundai i10.

Good news! I bought an E46 320d as it paid for itself on fuel savings over using my Zed when I commuted long distances for work. If I was doing the same now, I'd probably go for an E46 330d or a later iteration 3 series diesel. My S2000 will be for sale in the new year if you feel like long commutes in a car that's noisier than your ///M (from behind the wheel at least) and probably similar fuel economy. That has to beat a 1 series or a car from a former escalator manufacturer :P

Small, but frustrating update...

Just got my Intravee II & Alpine KCA-420i from a fellow forum member (thanks Marvin-HHGTTG), and my refurbed 64gb iPod to go in the car when I get it back, but...

Went in to the bodyshop this morning to pick up a courtesy car before the New Year / weekend, and they now tell me I can't have one yet as they're still waiting for authorisation from the insurer (despite me being assured that the authorisation was happening last Mon/Tue) :headbang:

Still trying to get some sense out of the insurer as they keep promising to call back, but have yet to do so :headbang: :headbang:

The last call I made earlier today was simply reiterating the info they gave me last week :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Don't mind how long the repair takes, but I've already spent over £300 of my own money on hire cars to get me around over the last 3 weeks, and will need to arrange something for my 5am start next Monday.

Don't think I'll be recommending this insurer to anyone

Whilst you keep paying for hire cars they will string it along.... Just saves them spending any money..

Its great news the car is getting done,im astounded that it is with the damage that it sustained. But you must keep pushing the insurance company, only worsened by solicitors and estate agents...

I've got no assurance that it is getting repaired (other than the word of the claims handler over the phone), as until the garage gets their authorisation I assume the insurer can change their mind.

I don't even know what the garage assessment is, so can't tell whether it's just bodywork and a wishbone/link or so - or whether it's something more extensive.

I also assume the write off will be based on a % of their initial offer (60-70% of pre-accident value from what I've read), and if I push for a much better settlement figure will the write off become less attractive to them?

I am being polite for now and don't want to get all gobby with them over the phone, as I risk them turning around and writing it off. Then I'll have to spend months negotiating up from their (probable) piddling initial 'book price' offer to a better offer - although I've worked out that it would cost me over £15k to get another vehicle (even buying the cheapest on the market) back to a similar spec (individual options, PSS10 suspension, Gruppe-M, Rogue Diablos, VT mounts, recent diff, new clutch & flywheel).

Yea....

No doubt......

if it came to it,would be a nice buy back and stick all your bits onto another car..... Then sell on your old M......

Still worth great money in bits or has a whole...

F.F.S.

So, despite telling me I was on the 'priority call back' list, and I'd receive a call before they close today, I've not received any call. After calling them at 2pm to check I've now found out they closed art 1pm and will reopen on Monday 4th Jan :headbang:

This is now starting to get frustrating, and I haven't (officially) even got past the repair/write-off stage.

I understand that they might be busy with other claims due to the flooding (no home is a bigger problem than no car), but why don't they say so, give me a reasonable timeframe for getting mine done, and reassure me that any out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed (they won't as it's a fault claim).

I've had to hire a car, at my cost yet again, to do the New Year drive to friends in Oxford, and for work next week.

Cheapest Z4MC in the UK - on a reputable site (i.e. not gumtree) - is still advertised at £13.5k, and theapest Z4M is £12k and that is a repaired cat D. So they must know the real value of these cars vs the 'trade guides' and that I won't be accepting a derisory settlement offer.

Did I mention that I'm pissed off, and in no mood for NYE or visiting friends :x

Forget about it for now and get a few beers in you and enjoy the time with friends.

Geez, I've missed this as not been online much last few weeks!
Hope you get things sorted soon Tony and the car gets repaired!
Try and have a good one tonight!
All the best !

Hope they give you an answer soon, mate...and all the best for 2016. It can only get better,I hope. Fingers crossed.

Well, finally know that the book value for my car (mileage, & factory-fitted options included) based on the average of Glass & CAP guides is £9,300.

The cost of repairs is currently north of £7,000 and they consider writing it off as the repair is over 65% of value. Repair cost may increase if they have any issues with the front suspension.

HOWEVER, the £4,500 worth of insured mods on the car takes the value close to £14,000 and so I'm only at about 55% of repair-to-value.

So the repair is still on - or I'll be insisting they pony up the full £14k valuation.

Sounds like good news there Tony :)

It still seems to be taking a long time to get a final descision out of them though. :x

This last call was with the insurer's engineer who was going to authorise the repair, and the bodyshop have phoned to say they've now had authorisation to progress and have asked me for details of the aftermarket suspension

They did apologise for the delay, but blamed the bodyshop for not understanding their question around the suspension & alignment - which was something to do with whether the bodyshop were confident in doing the alignment adjustment on a modified car. They kept saying yes, but then couldn't understand what coilover suspension was or what alignment setting should be on a non-standard car.

This is supposedly now sorted (will be taking it elsewhere on a lorry for the suspension geometry), and I'll probably take it elsewhere afterwards to double-check the settings.

The final call from the engineer was to get a feel around whether I'd prefer the write-off @ about £14k or for them to repair it. When I explained the amount I'd spent in the last year on suspension, cooling pack, alternator, battery, clutch & flywheel (about £6k), I think he understood why I'd prefer to have mine repaired - as any Z4MC I'd buy with the write off money would probably need all that doing soon anyway, so I'd be looking at finding another £6k on top of a £13k car.

Great result there for you. Bit scary re the suspension questions but I'm sure once it's been sorted and checked you'll be happy with it.

A great example of why it's worth declaring mods and having them specifically insured - sounds like good news

£7k repairs though :o
