What is the most old school low spec car you have owned

1967 Singer Chamois Sport, yes indeedee! complete with with permanently blown and warped head, self-dissembling drive couplings, 3 or maybe 4 speeds and 2 candlepower 4V lighting and electrics. Those were the days :D

The dream

The reality

My first car was a 1275cc 1968 MG Midget, ODG 673 G, I bought it when I was 16 and had it restored, only thing it had was a Sharp Radio Cassette :D

My first car was a 1931 Austin 7, the brake drums were connected to the brake pedal by wires with bulldog clamps, 6V electrics, permanent starting handle in the front but it did have a starter motor, that was the facelift extra over the 1930 model. In the centre of the steering wheel were two levers, one was a hand throttle the other a manual advance retard lever.
I bought it in 1964 for £12.00 and did up the engine sold it for £15.00 in 1965 to buy a 1954 Ford Mk1 consul that cost £16.00, that did have hydraulic brakes.
Wish I still had the Austin, it was only a few months from being classed as Vintage.

Mine was a Ford Popular 100E with a side valve engine.

I bought it while I was a university student in Manchester in about 1970 I think, it was 10 years old at the time and I paid £35 for it. I did all the maintenance on it myself out of financial necessity. Fortunately nothing major went wrong.

I kept it going for 3 years, enough to see me through university days, did a lot of miles including several summer trips down to Dorset and Devon. Eventually it failed the MOT due to general rot and decay. I think I got a fiver for it at the scrapyard.

MK 3 Ford Cortina 1.6XL, I always remember having it flat out on the motorway on a long straight and getting 85 mph out of it.

Did it also have Trafficators instead of normal indicators?

My first car.

Vauxhall Viva 1.3 I think purchased from my older brother.

Why o why didn't I see the mahoosive hole in the driver and passenger footwell

TPH 129L was my first car in 1984. It was a vauxhall viva HB. 1100cc in white (ish) with a webasto sunroof. Cost me £325. Oh the smell of cheap plastic and 2 star petrol! It had been modded, in so much as it had a long white whippy aerial and a retrofit rev counter (that didn't work)

I was the coolest kid on the street until a friend got the HC!

Wish I had a photo of it.
:D

My first, look how reclined the seats are. Gangsta style

Learnt to drive in Mum's Fiat 500 - JAC53D - no syncromesh, had to double de-clutch changing down. Once got 70 MPH on a very long down hill.

My first car was the indestructible Ford Escort 1100 - SOV737H - once broke a valve spring on M6 near Jodrell Bank and made it home to Solihull. Fixed it, with massive amounts of help from Dad, for next to nothing.

Second car was a really horrible Mini 1000 - MEA747L - in "mustard yellow". I have no idea why I bought that car. In today's money it was the most costly to keep fixing out of all of my cars.

Then followed:
Triumph Spitfire 1500 - NTW568P - great fun, still on the road today
Ford Capri 1600 - EWE91V - first family car
Ford Cortina Mark IV 1600
Ford Capri 1600 Laser in Burgundy (got nicked)
Ford Capri 1600 Laser in Petrol Blue
Ford Sierra Sapphire 1800 - first company car
Ford Granada 20l - second company car (got nicked)
Volvo 850 estate 2l 20 valve - company car
Volvo 850 estate 2.5l 20 valve - last company car - black
BMW 328 ci - P605WGN - black - still on the road today - great car
Jaguar X Type Estate 2.5l AWD - black
Z4M Roadster - black - clearly the best by far!

Everything after the Spitfire was quite sophisticated - they had radios and cassette/DVD players!

Only the Escort, the Spitfire and the Zed hold any real affection.

I found writing this quite cathartic!
