What is the most old school low spec car you have owned

Yellow 2CV, 431cc, purchased in Germany as a run around before buying a new tax free motor. 50BHP! It had a radio but all it played was the electrical noise from the engine. Great fun on corners. :D

I had 3 Vauxhall Vivas - Two HBs and an HC. All very basic and to be honest terrible cars. My first I paid £80 for and it had a furry dashboard!

A Renault 5TL was also a very basic car that came next - but it was reliable (something the Vivas most definitely were not).

:driving:

Wow , I've had so many as I'm coming up 50 next year , but a few that stand out are
Mk 3 cortina with a rover 3.5 v8 engine
Datsun 240 z
Rs 2000
69 mustang 351 Cleveland engine
Numerous 3 ltr capris , mk 1 of course
Another capri with a rover v8
Opel manta with a , ironically , ford 3.0 v6
Then up to date
Tvr s2
Griffith 500
Worst thing is the mustang cost £800 , rs 2000 in lime green £750 !
Lastly , a z3m coupe that I sold last year , needed the money for another property project
No traces of traction control or any such nonsense like that :driving:

Like many, my first set of wheels
A 1969 (H reg) Austin 1100

I had one of these:

as my first car too in white with a white painted grill. It was a 1981 X-registration 1.1L and would just touch an indicated 100mph down hill with the wind behind it :D

It ended up doing a fair impression of this:

after landing on its roof in a country lane four months after I bought it. A sad day, I loved that car and the freedom it gave me.

I suppose my most basic car has to be my Westfield, but that doesn't count.

Austin A40 while I rebuilt a Mini.

Don't get much more low tech than an old A series engine, simple gearbox and prop to rear axle. Leaf springs and drum brakes.

Paid £50 and scrapped it after 3 months :)

Actually I lie, I had a rover 3.5 with the shark nose while I was in the third form at school but my dad took the keys before I ever got to drive it. Swapped for a maxi I won at cards.nWhich I never even saw.

Shame but probably just as well.

I had a 1972/3 2dr MK3 Cortina 1.3l with a 1.6 engine :o it had vinal seats, no radio, don't think it had a heated rear window and it had alloy wheels with a different make of tyre on each rim. But I thought it was the nuts :driving:

1974 Hillman Avenger GT, Orange, racing stripes and a half vinyl roof. Purchased for £500 in 1986 sold two years later for £500 to my mate who wrote it off within a week.

How our performance expectations have changed

My first car after leaving university was a green Mark 1 Hillman Husky estate which by the time I bought it was already old. I remember it had a heater which i believe was an optional extra  no radio and just one large single spotlamp, and an AA member's badge and a top speed of 65 MPH. I had it for about 2 years before it finally gave up the ghost.

I third car was a Commer Cob ( Husky in a different guise ) built like a tank !

My next car was my favorite - A black and white Triumph Herald 1200 with red interior ( loved that car :D )

1970 ford escort van. 1100 cc and 44 bhp. Bought it in 1978 when at uni. Dad bought me a sticker for the rear window

'Passion wagon - don't laugh your daughter may be inside'

Very useful van til the front wheel fell off!

No radio, no carpets, no heater, vinyl seats

Back in 1976 whilst 'between cars I bought a Mini Van and put a mattress in the back.
Was dating a very passionate girl and I spent more time in the back of the van than I did in the drivers seat. t1534.gif

be the first one, Vauxhall Astra 1.3L 1989 reg

definitely dead now though, sold to my sister where it was torched outside her house :o

first car was a fiat 123BIS

i rolled this after losing it on a sharp bend, going too fast, and having no experience. (only been driving a few months) hit the hegde and went over back onto the wheels and then back onto the roof.

the replacement car was yugo55

wasn't fast, but had a cd player, heater, was pretty much indestructible mechanically (till the big end went), and allowed me to escape the village.

Never managed crash mine, had a couple of small offs. But used to thrash it to within an inch of its life a few times. Resulting in a couple of costly engine rebuilds, and a replacement reconditioned engine in the process
