What have you done to your E89 today

Well knock me down with a Foxwell 520 scanner..

I had an idrive / id4motion cluster amber warning for parking brake service…

I quickly read the error code ..6025, googled it and deduced that it was the right rear parking brake motor amiss in some way…it is a non TRW/BMW one..or maybe the connector…

So I swapped a genuine TRW across.error wouldn’t clear..

I then read the whole foxwell message ..6025 electronic parking brake button line 5..

I pondered then decided to have a look at the parking brake switch..once I’d removed the central console trim and had a look I could see I’d badly routed the n wires and their connector pinching some wires under the central Allen bolt that holds the centre console down…

Lifted it up..retrieved the loom…a visual inspection revealed no obvious damage..but I thought may as well re-route it and pit it back together.

Anyway ..on power up, fault code reader showed NO EPB faults!

Result..

Still can’t out quite why it made such a difference…

FWIW the diagnostics show no V on one line prior to this , after it showed 1V..other lines show 1V and 4V..

There you go..only one soft fault left..that of the pollution sensor on the HVAC but I’ll leave that for another day..just means that if I’m following a stinky diesel or old classic then I have to manually switch the fresh air intake from outside to inside..

First world problems..IMG_0320.jpeg

Fresh on a rampage after getting a Foxwell to troubleshoot an issue I decided to press into service my big android tablet with Bimmergeeks Protool..

Much easier than poking around on a small phone interface..

However ..a big fail…my car must be the only Z4 that the roof can’t be lowered on the fob but can be raised!

Tried toggling almost everything I could see to ‘activ’ to no avail..

Roof goes up and down on the buttons..

Goes up on the fob..but not down..

Fob unlocks doors and unfolds mirrors …but then nothing…no windows go down..no roof .

However..if I have the ignition on..then remotely close the roof..then..next time opens on the fob..but then next time..nothing..

Go figure..IMG_4039.jpegIMG_1277.jpegIMG_1278.jpeg

Gave the front brake upgrade a first fit test, just to satisfy my curiosity. Waiting on rotors/pads, and paint arriving. Looking forward to fitting everything in the near future. I have opted to do them in gold. Watch this space 😊

Did you paint them yourself?
Yes, I did.

The guy I used to use charged £240 for a set which I would have done to save myself the aggravation but he’s closed down. The next place wanted £360 which I felt was too much for me, as I’m retired now. So, I decided to do them myself.

Tbh, they weren’t in that bad a condition. I’m a ‘slow worker’ but it took me nearly a week to do them. Just as well, I’m retired! 🤣

Good stuff. Looking forward to seeing the finished result.

Thanks. 🙂
I think I've finished all the work I can do myself now.
As it's a pre-2015 car, I want to get the timing-chain/guides job done as a precaution but I have to take it to my BMW specialist for that.

Anything else whilst it's there? I'm thinking water-pump?
I'm going to have to save up the money for that too! 😅

They look good!

I think mine are past it, where they need shot blasting!

Wheels and arches Look fab Derin. 👌

They look amazing, I keep looking at mine and thinking, I could do it myself but I don't think I have the patience :)
Yes, it really tried my patience severely! (as I knew it would)
The only thing that spurred me on was the cost saving.
