I know how Wernher von Braun felt at times…sometimes you don’t realise how far you’re in…

Tidy up today and review..

Them's the breaks.... or in this case brakes!

Haven't driven it since early November, so I gave it a good wash and took some photos ready to put up for sale.

Unfortunately now it's all shiny, and I've remembered how much I enjoy driving it, I don't want to sell it

The rubber brake line hoses that connector the calipers to the metal lines are proving a bitch..

After 5 days, countless blow torch and penetrating fluid only one released ..the others just won’t move..bit the bullet and ordered fresh stainless steel ferrules and I’ll remake the junctions ..

Fitting stainless steel braided hoses ..wish I hadn’t started..

These pipes are only just over 3 years old…

Great strategy …steel parts with alloy pipes ..talk about galvanic corrosion

Fitted the two radar units for the ID4Motion digital cluster to enable blind spot monitoring..

Fit nicely in the slots thoughtfully provide by BMW on the internal bumper mounts..

Fired them up today…can’t get a ‘blind spot’ warning to come up on the dash..maybe need to be out n about with big bits of metal near by..current draw on the units so they are alive..

In the process found the RHS rear wing has been resprayed as over spray is on the internal bumper mount..

Makes a mockery of FBMWSH etc..number of ‘issues’ not recorded in any documentation… :tumbleweed:

My Saturday job was to upgrade my 676 amplifier, that I retrofitted last year, to a 677 system. New power supply, fibre optic and speaker adaptor looms were all made up and the system worked "straight out of the box" (** EDIT - after coding!!). The only downside is that the amp was from an E70, so although is the correct part the firmware isn't set up for the E89, so that's the next job to sort, but it is working as it should

Will be interesting to see what happens audio wise as the inlets and outputs are hardwired but we’re driving different speakers in different locations.. :tumbleweed:

The only differences are that the E89 has the additional rear centre channel that I've added into the correct plug (four pin shared with the MOST), and that there is a minor change on the rear negative pins, but this seems to be working fine. So I just need the firmware update to match the E89 environment (Subwoofers in the rear and not under the seats, and the woofers in the front footwell instead of the rear 1/4 panel etc). On researching this, I should be able to sort this with ISTA and my ICOM. It's useable for now, just a little bassy, certainly works with the surround function

Yes I was referring to the firmware with its assumptions..glad it’s worked out

I thought it was something to deal with the low volume to the outside when the standard amp was open, so I converted it to a Hi-Fi amplifier and set the speakers in the Hi-Fi set, the center speaker and the door, Twitter, rear subwoofer, and rear center speaker.
The volume at the time of opening was noisy inside, and it became so loud that you could tell that a car had come even outside.
I think the top Hi-Fi amp is 650W, but what about it? I used 6P Brembo calipers on an AMG CLS63 before, and I was trying to increase the standard 360mm outer diameter to 390mm with an adapter, but I gave up because the caliper curve and outer diameter were just barely within the limits. Isn't 380mm too heavy for a steel plate?
Also, there are twin calipers for the rear, what do you think?
In Japan, you have to pass a vehicle inspection for structural changes, right?

I assume neither of these is fitted to an E89?

Purchased that luxon brace bar off ebay. Very impressed with it, super solid. Doesnt rub on anything which from their photos looked like possiblty the airbox would. Going to take her out on some twisties this weekend to give it a good run.

:headbang: Moral, don't read too many non-specific articles :headbang:
OK, so I'm all up and running now. Didn't need a firmware update at all, as it has the correct settings already, just needs to know it's now in an E89 instead of an E70. So no need for ICOM and ISTA, all sorted through NCSExpert. Found AMPT and performed an SG_CODERIEN. Had music playing before, paused, did coding, then played again... WOW what a difference!!
All speakers working as they should, full surround sound working, tweeked a few settings in the equaliser and played some good music on the way to work, very happy  :driving:

Thanks for your help Peter, as always, very much appreciated

A couple of photos, now need to tidy the new loom up a bit.

Glad it worked out..never quite sure with modules from another car whether they'll work or not..in part my paranoia is caused by my failure to climb the learning curve to use NCS expert etc,,

As a rule, if its the same part number, or superseded, then it should work. Some modules are VIN locked and would require virginising (or new would require installing the VIN) to work, things like the cluster, headunit, CAS, NFRM etc
Also, but this isn't a definite, you need to keep to E Series (there are exceptions, like this amp!).

As for mine, then I'm happy, just waiting for my new subwoofers to arrive. As I have the HiFi ones I'm just changing the speaker and not the housing. So in doing that I can get away with buying the subwoofers from the E70, as the actual speakers are exactly the same inside. Four screws each and a straight swap over.
Average price of a used E89 Top HiFi subwoofer is around £150 each. The E70 subwoofer (exactly the same part number for the speaker inside) cost me £30 each!! Quite a saving
Also got the rear centre speaker grill, with tweeter, coming from Sytners next week, only cost £37 as opposed to the lowest priced ebay one at £57!!
Don't pay ebay prices, always check the dealer first!!

Often the BMW official guys are better than some of the 'predators'..and they tend to ship faster..

Would have been a lot simpler to have bought a G29 and talk about ceramic coating all day long..

The part number is a russian roulette when it comes to ebay guys..they just spit loads out..

Bit like the M5 rear caliper is actually the same as the F 5 ..just 5 times mre expensive for being painted blue..
