What have you done to your car today?

Nothing too exciting but I took it for an MOT and got a Pass with no advisories. :D

Whilst I was under the car I took a look at the water pump and stat. It definitely looks like it could still be the original pump. I’ve no history of it being changed and it’s pretty cruddy. The car is on 118000 miles so decided to replace it and have put an order in to Autodoc. More tinkering to come then Happy days

Interested to hear how this goes as it's something I think I need to do on mine. Hoping the fact it's electrical makes it easier.......
I worried as I'd never done one. Took less than an hour to swap it over and then a bit longer to do the fancy bleeding process. Longest part of the whole job was getting it up on ramps and the undertray off.

VANOS off, seals replaced and ready to go back on.

I hope it’s worth it, because it’s a lot of effort to replace a few o-rings. Thanks to [ref]bigwinn[/ref] for confidence building advice along the way.

Always a big moment Iain, well done.

Cheers Ben.

Always nerve-wracking, but much easier than replacing Vanos seals!

It looks like it should be a simple job to me. There may be a surprise breakage along the way, but that’s old cars for you. The parts have arrived so I hope to crack on with it soon. Good price and service from Autodoc. I’ll report back and let you know how it goes

I don’t think I’ve seen your car. Any pics you can post?
How did the fog lights turn out?

I have put photos of the foglights on my new member thread if you want to look.

How much is your re-spray costing out of interest?

They look good Fred.

And the respray is being done at my mates garage and he’s not charging me a lot. Probably half the cost you would be thinking of.
I get it back next Friday.
Then I’ve got a Gravity Exhaust to go on. Service and MOT. And also have some nice blue dials to fit.

I dread to think how much time and money my car is behind yours! Mine would benefit a service to... will do it in the next 2-3 months / 500 miles.

Apart from the cost of respray and parts.
I run a garage so do all the work myself which saves a lot.
I’ve still spent a lot on wheels tyres suspension and other bits to make it perfect.

I fear I cannot compete with a garage owner! Lovely car!

These are fairly easy cars to work on and the parts are reasonable compared to a lot of other cars.
It’s nice to have a rolling project where you can improve bits and bobs over time.
Enjoy the journey with it Fred. You don’t need to do everything straight away.

 Changed the oil about 100 miles ago as can see from what I’ve what I dropped on the garage floor. The black (actually not as black as it looks) stuff came out of the VANOS oil pathways to/from the solenoids which don’t get a great deal of circulation. I won’t be drinking it

Took the seats out to carpet clean underneath, they were grim. Took the time to clean all the seat rails, seats everything else I now had access. Then repaired a stone chip on a replacement wing that I may get on the car over the weekend.

Next up back brakes, and to stop the front from squealing every time I brake.

Had the square set of 326’s for the Mrs E89 refurbished in a sparkle silver finish, look fantastic in sunlight. A good compromise between plain silver and shadow chrome… kind of in the middle.

The pair I bought from the forum really didn’t need doing at all, but I didn’t want to mess about trying to have two colour matched.

I need to remove my seats to clean under them; I’m guessing that it’ll not be all that pleasant under them after 16 years! Daft question, but will the car be in transport mode if I disconnect the battery to remove the seats? It’s the one that’s put me off so far.

No, I think the transport mode possibility is only when the battery has been disconnected for a couple of weeks.

Only seems to effect a handful of cars.
