What have you done to your car today?

[ref]axelleveau[/ref], check the coolant reservoir for cracks, they have a name of going bad

It is likely that as there is some water on some panels just under it but as I started the degas process without the cap on and I was trying to top up at the same time, it sprayed everywhere and I cannot confirm exact location yet.

I am not debating whether I should do pump+thermostat while in there... The pump seem original so 15 years old and 100k miles and I might as well not spend the coolant and de-ionised water twice :|

Definitely worth a refresh of the lot then, plus the drive belts as you're in there.

Today I am getting a wheel guy to come out and have a look at one of my wheels that I believe has been causing a knock. However there was no visible buckle or crack on the wheel, so we'll see what he says.

Restoring the carpets to their former glory prior to installation. Slowly I’ve revived and protected all components, ready for fitting.

Replaced ABS sensor & reluctor ring on n/s drive shft. Finaly got rid of the Chrismas tree lights on the dash after nearly three weeks. Replacing the broken rear anti roll bar drop links next on the list.

Replaced the door on the Einser today, as I’d had an unfortunate door ding caused by a run-in with a low post. Rather than a spot repair, I found a replacement door in the correct colour for a bargain, so swapped that out today.

Transportation over the half kilometre was -eh- sketchy

Wow, that is a lot of trim to remove to get those carpets out, I may be doing the same thing next winter. The PO used the worst smelling cologne and I can't see any other way to get the smell out, take them to the car was and pressure wash the stink.

My tip before taking them out: steam cleaning combined with a suitable fabric cleaner. Works a treat. Ozone treatment -normally used against smokers cars- can sometimes help as well. I’d reach out to a local valeter/detailer first before dismantling; my carpets are out because they’ll be replacing the beige ones currently fitted. Good luck!

I took out my leaking headlight washer nozzle and fixed it (at least I think I did). I even wrote a HOW TO here: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133790

Tomorrow should be dedicated to cooling system work

First a wash, then a small trip with a few friends to visit Brooks Jaguar. Classic Jag’s, Aston’s and LR’s. Absolutely lovely day out

Son in law turned up with the 3.0i he's borrowing. The diff guard had dropped and he'd lashed it up with string.
An hour on the ramps and a bit of fettling and now it's back on, stronger than ever.
I err, ahem, acquired what we used to call 'speed-tape' in the RAF. Figured if it was good for temporary repairs on Tornados then it should be ok for the car.

I did a repair to the heat shields with some Carbon Kevlar matting and resin a couple of years ago and it is still all ok

Posh Gaffer Tape?
It looks like a good fix.
I'm no expert with fibreglass or anything like that.
Speedtape and a rounded screwdriver handle to flatten it down properly, that'll do me.

Took it for an extended shakedown, after recently renewing all the suspension, fitting new wheels and having a 4 wheel alignment done.

Roof down, heated seats on, familiar roads, driving from dusk into darkness… love it.

So undecided, I really fancy a Z4M…. But this is a cracking Si :driving:

After all that fettling surely you really want to get the benefit of driving it at it's best?

Just don't test drive an M - that was when I knew I needed one!

Removed the old and tired leather from the individual wheel without breaking the strips. Tomorrow it’s showtime for the strips themselves. Thin gauge wire and heat as a first attempt

Probably….

Although, I don’t think I’m the only person on the forum who enjoys working on them almost as much as driving them :?
