What have you done to your car today?

I cleaned the roof drain nipples. Surprisingly dirty for a car that spends most of its time garaged and were done last time 2 years ago.20200903_150328.jpg20200903_150257.jpg

Reprogramming required maybe?

I doubt it since I used the same mirror that was already on the car. Was just trying to solder on a new LED where the old one should have been. Its more likely to be my shoddy soldering

Followed SK93,s how to guide and reset wiper resting points.the job would have been simple if not for wiper arms that wouldnt come off without a fight and plastic screws that are made from the same plastic as used in the making of Tesco carrier bags.
Now wipers are in correct lower position and return there after every use.thanks Sk93

New outer upper and lower rear bushes changed.

That's awesome! Couple of questions:
  • What part numbers are the new bushes you used?
  • How did you remove the bushes from the arm?

Yesterday evening and today, washed and started on polishing it.......got the bonnet done but I can still see slight swirl marks. Might go a little more aggressive with the pad.
Brakes changed all round and calipers stripped and painted, I wanted blue but I was overruled by the dictator :D cleaned inside and seats treated. Had a quick look for the roof motor....how on earth do people who aren't the size of a child or a contortionist manage that ?

The tool did its job, but s**t quality. Threw it out after I finished.

After I was lucky enough to bag a set of H&R ARB’s for £209 from Euro car parts I thought I’d make a start putting them on. First thing I did after getting the car jacked up high enough was to give the underbody a good clean with my jet wash. 97BFF812-E28E-4BF6-A75A-DA1824543D10.jpeg

I bought new brackets, nuts, bolts & rear drop links. I didn’t bother getting a set for the fronts cos a set came with the BC Racing Coilovers I put on the car earlier.

I’ve ordered a set of bushes for the rear drop links from Stongflex, but I’m still waiting for them to get here🤨 so the rear ARB will have to wait.

For some reason H&R don’t put any grease in with the kit so I’m using some powerflex.

Old front bar came off no bother, but the BC drop link doesn’t have straight sides on the inner to get a spanner on.

The box section that the bush bracket fixes too looked fine to.

That’s Archie one of my flat coated retrievers trying to help, he should have a spanner in his mouth not a toy ha

I put plenty of grease on the bush inner & outer

Rain stopped play so I’ll fit the new on in the morning.

I put some info about it here - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=47&t=1755842&i=63

Just managed to get the ARB on before it started raining. Hopefully the rear drop links bushes will arrive soon so I can fit the rear.

Quick update, WOW what a difference 😁

Ive fitted an Ultra Racing front strut brace & with the H&R ARB the steering feels loads more responsive.

I’ll do some proper testing once I get the rear ARB fitting, Hopefully later this week

This weekend was small jobs but satisfying ones

Fitted new dipped beam bulbs
Fixed the air leak, so now a week after doing the Vanos seals I can say WHAT A DIFFERENCE to power and MPG! Would recommend anyone doing that preventative maintenance job and my seals were to coin a phrase f00ked
Extended the boot carpet to hide the motor relocation
Cleaned and polished

So now onto planning the metal brake line replacements, think I may change the front wishbones as I think they are needing doing and I may venture into doing the CCV works-

I’ve been spraying the Zunsport grilles with primer and Saphire black paint ready to have 6 coats of fresh lacquer out of the gun tomorrow.

Have also got very obsessed with looking at wheels. Thinking of 18” 666m M4 wheels

I finally completed my front and rear parking sensor project based on custom 3D-printed number plate mounts for the sensors (so as to avoid drilling the bumpers in order to keep the car as original as possible). Much to my amazement no trim panels or clips were harmed in the process!

Spookily, my new number plates arrived today as well - so I fitted those too.

IMG_1128.jpg

The rear plate is now curved to match the front one, which I think looks better. I also tried to design the sensor bracket to fit in with the rest of the car.

I did take a photo of the front one as well, but the late afternoon sun was behind the car, and the exposure was all completely to pot! :D

Removed sponge from the sound generator tube. I’ve done this a few times before but always ended putting it back. This time replaced it with a smaller sponge.

I did this one this evening too! Mine had a large sponge in the bulkhead end and a small sponge in the engine end. Obviously I took out the large sponge...!

Cleared up the headlights. Wasted time with one of the restorer kits from Amazon but got good results with fine grit/compound and protected with Poorboys wheel sealant.

Hi Ladderman
I’ve only had my z for 2-3 weeks and love the handling already. What made you fit these? Does it feel markedly different. Great job by the way
