What have you done to your car today?

After I was lucky enough to bag a set of H&R ARB’s for £209 from Euro car parts I thought I’d make a start putting them on. First thing I did after getting the car jacked up high enough was to give the underbody a good clean with my jet wash. 97BFF812-E28E-4BF6-A75A-DA1824543D10.jpeg

I bought new brackets, nuts, bolts & rear drop links. I didn’t bother getting a set for the fronts cos a set came with the BC Racing Coilovers I put on the car earlier.

I’ve ordered a set of bushes for the rear drop links from Stongflex, but I’m still waiting for them to get here🤨 so the rear ARB will have to wait.

For some reason H&R don’t put any grease in with the kit so I’m using some powerflex.

Old front bar came off no bother, but the BC drop link doesn’t have straight sides on the inner to get a spanner on.

The box section that the bush bracket fixes too looked fine to.

I put plenty of grease on the bush inner &

Hi Ladderman
I’ve only had my z for 2-3 weeks and love the handling already. What made you fit these? Does it feel markedly different. Great job by the way
hi Stotts. I’m am doing a number of modifications that will improve that handling of my car. So after doing some research, upgrading anti roll bars is a major improvement. I fitted the front H&R ARB plus an Ultra Racing front strut brace & when I went for a short test drive I was really impressed with the responsiveness of the steering.

As it happens I’m fitting the rear ARB tomorrow, then I’ll know exactly what the overall benefits are. There are a number of other upgrades to take in to consideration that work in conjunction to improve handling , such as polly bushes, Coilovers, wheel geometry & tyres.

There are a lot more members on the forum that will give you better advice than I can cos i’m a novice & learning all the time.

All I would say is think about what you want from you car. If your happy with the handling as it is, then wait for a while.

My end goal is to use my Z4 as a street/race day car. But it an’t cheep to achieve this. “ don’t tell my wife”. :o

I get that. I have Eibach suspension which lowers it about 15mm and it’s a glorious ride as it is. We have a lot of sleeping policemen round our way so I don’t want to harden it anymore than that so I have 18” with non run flats.

I was thinking of a strut brace etc, like you but I have my bike for the track so I don’t think it’ll help apart from at meets etc and showing off a large V over the engine ..? ?

Anyway I’ll leave it for a few weeks and then decide.

Thank you for the detailed reply.

E85 3.0 59k 2005. Not had it long, beautiful condition, previous owner a forum member. Lots spent.

After reading the forum I thought I'd have a look at the Vanos. Parts of the gaskets and seals were like bakelite, don't know how there wasn't a leak.

Fitted the full kit from x8r, took me longer than I thought.

Difference is night and day. Would recommend it to anyone. Definitely quicker., smoother changes between 1st and 2nd.

Next job is the disa upgrade. A big thank you to all previous advice on this on here. Much appreciated.

Cheers mark

Not really done as such but had a great day chilling with these beauties...

No Link I'm afraid just a bargain one off sale. Right time right place. The guy who made them doesn't think he will make anymore. He's on this forum and Facebook. Machine Monkey. He popped up on Facebook today saying too much work for little cash. Sad really because they are superb quality. I'm sure he'd have a waiting list from guys on here wanting a pair.

New set of goodyears on the front; the Bridgestones that had been on it since I bought 3 years ago had a DOM of 2013 and had signs of perishing around the very edges of the tyre, probably because the previous owner only ever drove it for 2-weeks out of the year (apparently). Don't know if it's just the placebo effect but I swear the ride is marginally better and quieter now.

Parabolica, you will be correct and it won’t be a placebo effect as Goodyear tyres are amongst the quietest on the market. I swear by them and they are my favourite tyres and always fit them to my cars because of that very reason.

Fitted B4’s all round. I did do my front left twice as I wasn’t happy with the my spring alignment 1st time

All good and night and day difference having decent suspension

Some small easy interior mods for today.

Cruise control retrofit (no need to fit a wiring loom) so the hardest part was cutting the slot in the steering column cowl. I also fitted a left and right cupholder (I know they divide opinion on here!), but I got them at a decent price so why not!

My new B4s arrived so just the springs and new top mount to come and then I can begin on refreshing all 4 corners! :D

Fitted a ZHP gearknob.
Not convinced the gear changes are hugely improved but then again not driven much with it yet.
However it feels so much better quality wise than the standard gearknob and imo looks so much better. Big thumbs up from me.

Bit delayed but a new (to me) radiator fan fitted in the week to replace a failing original one, yesterday used some Maguires plastic re-blacker stuff on the lower front grill (worked wonders) and today cleaned about a million dead flies off that I drove through in an otherwise clean car last night :P

Fitted a new leather gear and handbrake gaiter with red stitching and perforated leather. Spent hours last night glueing the new ones on, happy with the result :)
