What have you done to your car today?

Short trip to the zed shed today for a much overdue roof motor relocation. Sitting happily in the boot now. Mike certainly has this down to a finely tuned operation.

Wow your motor looks new! Do you mind me asking how much it cost for the job?
Cost me 175 and I was back home in less than 3 hours all told. I'd have still been watching how to videos and trying to find the relevant tools if I was contemplating doing it myself. Money well spent in my eyes, some things are best left to the experts

Just did a little grill swap from chrome edged to all black

Thanks mate, sounds worth it!

Fittedhttp://www.gap-tech.co.uk/rchp.html

Simply to fit, though needed my glasses and torch to identify the correct coloured wires (Brown / Red was the hardest to find).

Very impressed.....

Castrol edge and Fuchs in engine, gearbox and diff. As recommended by Opie .

Flew thru MOT too.

Running as sweet as.

Must find somewhere to go tomorrow.

Added 1000 BHP and made it break the sound barrier  :driving:

New rubber on the back as they were on the limit with MOT looming. Had Uniroyal Rainsport 3 all round which have been good, but they we’re proving difficult to source through my usual fitter so went with the new 5s. Hoping they’re as good as the older pattern.

Over 2 days but it still counts right?

New water pump and thermostat. New temp sensor. Apart from the issues it was super fun, enjoyed doing my homework around engine lifting etc

Shout out to Patriot: always a huge help

Vanos this weekend

Today was VANOS seal/rebuild day.

Really enjoyed it- shoutout to Patriot AGAIN for the excellent advice, as well as DMike and the other guys who have done this recently who spurred me on to get it done.

4 hours from on ramp to engine restart. Again glad I did my homework on it as I was ready for any unexpected dramas and took time to remove air box, fan shroud etc.

Advice on 90 degree needle nose pliers was spot on, I was paranoid about the vanos bolts but that went OK. New seals in no dramas on pistons. As I'm a 2.2 I assume that the others struggles with VANOS body clearance is not as bad on the smaller engine- the flex in the cross member and the engine was enough to get it past the studs and out. Expected this to be a PITA but it was ok.

Only bit I struggled with was reinserting the new plugs and seals that you remove with the 90 degree pliers- got there in the end.

Refilled with oil/water and took it for a spin- immediately noticed engine much smoother and pulled harder to redline when warm- I hope that with others the improvements are seen in a few days/miles when seals bedded in

X8R kit was well worth the money and think its new gasket will have fixed a small oil leak at the top of the engine

Onwards- happy to do a write up for anyone that needs it in future!

 Write up would be great!

Fitted new brake pads yesterday then today we went out for a spin. Up through Snowdonia then onto Anglesey for fish and chips before heading back home. Gave the car a quick clean before putting it back into the workshop until next weekend!

Best mod for E85 IMHO

Bought a used 1 Series interior rear view mirror from ebay to do a clown nose transplant (including LED) as my mirror has a gaping hole underneath. The donor mirror was only £10 so can't complain.

Took the donor mirror apart just fine, removed the LED board and de-soldered the LED without any problems. My issue was while soldering the LED into my current interior mirror. The solder just wouldn't stick to the terminals on the board (even after extensive cleaning). Once I finally managed to get it somewhat soldered, the LED wouldn't work when I fitted it back on the car. :headbang:

Thankfully there are no problems with locking and arming/disarming the alarm, and now the interior mirror looks like it should with the clown nose on. I can live without a blinking LED.
