What have you done to your car today?

So far today near side rear trailing arm, drive shaft, and both hand brake cables threaded into place now to struggle to get them all connected up.

Finally replaced my original aerial with an eBay special! Less than a fiver and looks ok to me, with no change in reception.

Todays efforts

Rear trailing arm fitted
Hand brake shoes and hand brake cables fitted
Drive shaft fitted
Centre heat shield fitted
Prop shaft fitted
Two sections of the exhaust fitted loose
One of the reinforcement plates fitted
Made up some flexi stainless steel brake lines for the rear
Fitted the discs on the rear
Fitted the rear brake callipers
Re fitted the rear springs

So tomorrow I need to replace a headlight lamp on the one series, then try and finish the exhaust fitting and the remaining bits still on the bench.

Wow. I feel stupid posting my efforts after reading all that!
Do you have a lift to get access to the underneath? Would love a bigger/empty garage.

Today I stripped out some of the boot carpets to get to the bottom of my moisture issue. Couldn't find any evidence of water ingress around the rear lights or the aerial. Tightened up the 3rd brake light screws as far as they would go (I know that goes counter to advice but I'm at the end of my tether).

Poured water on the light and didn't notice any moisture inside the lid. Fingers crossed.

Did notice the roof had moisture and dirt trapped under the rear seam (?) when I ran my fingers underneath. Hmmm. Also noticed a tiny hole above the rear window that I'll need to repair. Any ideas?

Replaced the blown 40 amp roof fuse. Gaptech module still not working. Gave the red/black/blue wires a wiggle. Will take the tape off and see if they need soldering:

Noticed a tiny paint bubble on the rear wing. :x

Not sure what to do with this. There's a few tiny paint chips that could do with touching up. Maybe a trip to the body shop?

Here's the ingrained washer fluid stains I've been dealing with:

washer-fluid-stains.jpg

All over the bonnet, front wings and even some on the doors. Managed to clear one side of the car. The rest will take hours. Can't wait to get this thing clay barred. 8)

Had the car up on stands whilst my wheels were refurbed and the bumper had a respray. Painted the front strut brace grey to match the car. Refitted the bumper and the alloys after protecting them with Carbon Collective Platinum Wheels.

Both jobs were completed by people recommended by Mr Wilks (thank you sir) and I have to say both were great...especially the alloys guys.

Just the leather and the rear light to sort now and then it's a full detail for this year's epic drives I have planned. :driving:

No I have 4 axle stands and a trolly jack and some bits of wood to get the car up enough to get under it.

Garage is a single garage but a small L shaped bit as a work area with a bench.

Today I finished off the exhaust re fitting and all the bits that go along with that like the heat shields, support plate, under trays.

Photo of the rear brake lines I have made up

DD4D9DC4-D9E9-408B-8786-90C79851648B.jpeg

I now have some P clips to attach the pipes and ABS sensor cables to the trailing arms

So I am nearing the end of the winter work for the Z

Remaining work that I know of

Connect up ABS sensors and clip in place
Connect up rear brake wear sensor and clip in place brakes
Bleed rear brakes
Re fit fiddly bits of trim in the wheel arch that covers the connection boxes for the sensors
Fit rear wheels
Fit the Peterson oil relief valve when it get here (long story)
Fit cam/rocker cover
Fit strut brace
Check everything again
Lower to the ground
Tax it for April
Drive it to Simon Thorpe Motors for a full alignment and a second set of eyes to check everything looks ok.
Run in the con rod bearings, oil change.
Then drive it on nice days during the summer

Slight spanner in the works while driving back from Cleethorpes to Manchester my 1 series started stuttering under power and the dash lit up almost every warning light mainly to do with the ABS so likely the rear ABS sensor has failed due to the reluctor rink rusting and swelling then wiping the face off the sensor so I now have that to do as well.

Refurbed the headlights this weekend, yellowing was only mild, but it was letting the car down.
Very pleased with the end result.

They look new ! I need to do this to mine after pricing new lens

Well after Ross at RBM Hampshire fixed my leaking headlight washer jet I ordered a new cover from Sopers because the original cover had a broken clip.

I'll get that painted and fit it, but to make sure it stays attached to the car I pulled Fuse 40 today as the headlight washers just seem to be a world of pain (cost) for no real benefit! :x

Ordered a Stromung exhaust for my 2007 Z4M. :driving:

Now debating if I get the AFE or MGruppe intake. I would go MGruppe, but the price is difficult for me to swallow. So I am still debating.

I’ve got a friend bring a MGruppe back from Australia in the summer for some reason they are cheaper there.
When you get your Stromung exhaust fitted will you be selling your OEM back box silencers as I would be interested ?

How did you do it?

Masked around the lights with 3 or 4 layers to tape.
Then rubbed 600 grit wet and dry paper (on a sanding block) all over the glass. Lubricating with water from a spray bottle. That removed all discoloration and introduced lots and lots of small scratches.
I repeated the process with 800, 1000, 1200 grit paper to slowly remove the marks from the previous paper. Followed by 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit pads on a drill attachment that are part of the autoglym headlight restoration kit. Once the lenses are clear of scratches I polished with the autoglym compound and pad on a cordless drill.
Finished with an extra coating to reintroduce some UV protection.
Allow and hour for each lens and make sure you have all the tools to hand and nerves of steel... Once you start there's no going back.

Im in the process of using this kit, sorted all the rubbing down just need to polish with the paste, and hopefully have the same result as Lordoxygen

Bought some new rear discs. Double checked the part numbers. Unpacked, degreased and painted the bells silver, then stripped the old ones off , to find they are the wrong ones , in the right box :(
Now arguing on them not accepting them back as painted , even though the part numbers and invoice and the packaging box was all correct. Some numpty at Mintex stuffed the wrong ones in the right box .................................grrrrrrrrr :headbang:
