What have you done to your car today?

I bought that kit from seeing yours and mine didnt come up the same, any technique to this?? i used 2000 then 3000 then 5000 then polish by hand but with little effect (they wasnt bad anyway)

Honestly I don't think I've done anything special, however I'll type it out as it might help?

Started off by wiping the lens down with some paper towel and windolene.

Then used the kit, didn't follow the instructions 100%, I started off using the polish agent over the whole lens, mainly horizontal, but when I felt like it I'd make mister miyagi (karate kid) circles. And vertical as well over the most affected areas. (Spent about 15 minutes on this per light)

Used the 2000 for quite a while, only on the badly damaged portions. Alternating between horizontal and vertical movements. Followed this by doing the same with 3000 (and slightly widening the area). Lastly used the 5000 for quite a while as its obviously the finest paper and I kept expanding the treatment area as to not have an obvious overlap. Between that and unsanded areas
(as I didn't find it necessary to sand the whole lens down in my case)

Rinsed the headlight a couple of times during the sanding process with water (as to remove micro plastic and sandpaper residu)

Again at the end using the polish stuff over the whole lens and interchanging between horizontal/vertical and circular movements. Think I might have done this step twice?

Rinsed it off with water, dried with paper towel.

Applied lens sealer,
Left the lens sealer for 10-15 minutes

And wiped this off, again using mister miyagi circles. Probably spent about 1-1,5 hours per lens though..

Todays result of the other lens, perhaps it helps?
That looks spot on, will do this to mine.

For reference, perhaps against forum rules, but this time round, I used the "left-overs" from my last headlight overhaul with the previous car, seems quite powerfull stuff, compare left to right on this one. (If it is against forum rules, mods: please feel free to delete the pic)

Cheers for confirming, I wasn't sure if I was breaking the rules, in all honesty it was a fun little car, made quite efficient use of its 1.8 vvtli engine..

Edit: I do like the folding headlights :D

Intended to put the new additions on (photo), but ran out of time. Plus the sun is shining so time to drop the top and head off to work. The wheels can wait till the weekend.

Been machining some more parts, not finished the handles yet still got to do the buttons.

I'm in the US and took advantage and ordered a P3 Vent Gauge for my E89 - just received it today. I look forward to fitting it when I am back in the UK - saved myself over £100 in the process.

👍

Let Ted take it out for a blast :driving:

That looks great! What did you use, out of interest?

Cheers, I used quixx headlight restoration kit (£10 on amazon)

Basically it includes all the bits you'd need to clear the headlight manually (polish agent, rubber block, sand paper (2000,3000,5000) and a lens sealer.

The kit should last for a couple of headlight restaurations (no I'm not on commission)

Thanks for the info! Might try it

Put my new 18” CSL rep/style wheels on. Not sure if they’ll be staying, but they allow me to keep the car on the road while I DIY refurb the style 189s. Then it’ll be decision time - which stay and which go?

I personally prefer the look of the 189's. 19" Csl's would be a different story.

All opinions welcome. :) I am sure 19s would really have looked the part, but the trade off in ride quality was not something I was willing to accept. The rural roads around here are not great, so sticking with 18s was a must.
