What have you done to your car today?

Condensation in in the starboard headlight. Left this running for 3 hours with the back cover off and a blast from Deb's hairdryer every 15 min or so to shove some dry air around inside and job Done. Thought the video would be a bit boring. 😴

Hopefully you replaced read headlight cover with a new one. Those rubber gaskets dry up over time.
Oh yes, did both sides

Brembo, rotors are good (10kkm), but breaks pads sucks - after few km they squeal, i have changed to my favorite Textar F/R - TEXTAR 2328702, TEXTAR 2193402, brakes pads are well without bad noises, only, they are very dirty and they are softer.
This type of textar i have on all cars, E70/ E63/ E85/ E53.
Do you find drilled brembos louder than a standard rotor? I had drilled Zimmermanns on my e39 and they were louder than the previous standard discs, at least when they were new. Later they got quieter or I just got used to the noise. When I replaced them with standard discs back again I didn't really noticed the new rotors to be quieter. But the inner holes on the Zimmermanns got filled, maybe that silenced them.
I am however thinking of trying the drilled brembos on my Z4 in the future.

Has anyone had drilled brembos to work with Ate Ceramic pads?

I’ve run those discs on a few diff cars and there is no appreciable difference in noise, so long as you bed in the pads properly. If after doing so you still hear some squeal, then it is a function of the pad type/compound. I suppose you could always apply anti-squeal paste but that stuff can get messy so I wouldn’t go nuts with it.

But as a whole, I don’t even think drilled rotors are worth it. They’re more likely to develop cracks and any difference in heat dissipation is negligible for everyday driving. Paying up for looks is fine so long as you know what you’re getting.

Hi, I meant brake pads, not rotors. The rotors are fine. I replaced the brake pads from ATE to Textar. Every winter, if I have time, I fully disassemble the brakes. I clean everything, and the front rotors are drilled. I also clean the rotors with a screwdriver. That’s all.
i dont belive ATE ceramics is somethings special. Better solution Ferodo 2000 DS.

I'm thinking of this combination just for the looks, I'm not seeking some extra performance here for my street use  Ate ceramic has the advantage of not making the wheels dirty after one trip. The performance is just as good as with stock pads.

Finally got around the sorting out the garage to give more room around the car. Quickly realised that we might have small furry guests and then some concerning clues…

Blower was also making a weird noise so further investigations led to finding a mice piss soaked and completely chewed cabin filter :o

And ultimately leading to this discovery….

Now worried where they now are hiding out/living!

I hope you used gloves and a mask when dealing with this :o :o

Yes, and yes. Although the heater/blower had already been blowing this directly into the cabin/towards my face when I first started up the car and moved it out of the garage :? :(

My opinion is good braking efefect, Textar has soft mix and this is better for braking efects (from my side 2x better like normal), i dont care if breaks pads is dirty or not, i need good brakes efect and the ATE ceramic is only advertisement things. if you need better brakes then you have to do it something special. i mean big rotors 2-4 piston brakes and this is not cheaper solution, otherwiese is everything same.
Brembo what i have is also HIGH coated carbon, but i dont belive in something speial :) Serial things are still serial things ;)
I think this is good for Z4, because weight :) E70 (4,8i) have 2,3 tons and you dont have chance something do it with serial rotors and brakes pads, everything is in fire.

I have years of experience with Ate ceramic on my e39, works just well enough for my needs and the wheels are way cleaner than with some standard pads. I'm not using any of the cars for tracks so I don't need some high performance brakes. However I find the standard brake setup on the 2003 Z4 3.0i being worse that a standard setup on e39 530i - with Ate ceramic or standard pads, doesn't matter. 300mm front rotor is just too small for the Z4 3.0i. I expect a 325mm rotor to perform better. Of course I don't expect performance as with 2-4 piston brakes, some racing pads, etc. I don't need that.

Two coats of rain-x all round in preparation for an upcoming road trip. Got half the wiring done for the cruise stalk before lunch break ended. Still got the blue wire to do.

Put it on SORN for a month. :(

But as it's the shortest month of the year and the weather is usually pretty horrible I should get nearly £60 back!

What frustrates me is you can't pause the insurance at the same time without punitive fees.

If I could have it where I could pay double tax and insurance, but then get pro-rata refunds daily for every day I confirmed the cars would not be on public roads, I'd save so much money. And to be honest I'd be pretty happy with no theft cover when they are on my drive or on a parking bay on my road.

I'm happy to keep the insurance running just in case, as it costs far less than Road Tax on an M!
