Hi all,

As you are all aware my zed was written off a few weeks ago, I am not sure what to get next. The options are below, if anyone has had experience with these cars of can offer any advice please get in touch.

-BMW Z4 3.0i/3.0Si
(Tempted but I know what I spent on the old one to get it driving nice, not sure if I want to do it all again as I have lost a lot of money!)

-BMW E46 M3 Manual
(always wanted an M car so this could be the easy way into getting one)

-BMW M135i
(On a PCP from BMW new or used)

- BMW M235i
(Prefer it to M135i but can't justify the price increase!)

- BMW 130i
(Had a 123d before but wasn't that impressed, did I just have the wrong engine?)

All of the above would be daily drivers, I would get anther car next winter if I got the M3 to save putting miles on it though!

Anything else I should consider?

Anyone owned an M3 anything to look out for? How many miles are the engines good for?

I want a Z4MC in Imola Red one day but I'm not in a position to get one yet and don't want to use it as a daily driver so that will have to wait.

Thanks

Ash

M235i, having read one reviewer describe it as a modern day E46 M3

my choice would be the -BMW E46 M3 Manual .
Ive only owned one M car and that was an E30 M3 1989 ,so cant really comment on the E46 but always liked them .

Really sorry about your car. It was a good one. :(

Z4MRs are pretty cheap at the moment! M235/135i look like a great buy, but don't be tempted get one over the Z4M for either economy or noise. The noise is pretty decent, but no S54, and the economy is hilarious compared to the quoted figures. A couple of mates with them get mid-to-high 20s average.

Until the immiment arrival of the full fat new M2 of course!

Yea this worry's me buying the M135i & M235i as they wont be as good as an M2!

Also apparently BMW are going to release the BMW M140i and M240i next year too :(

When you say a daily driver how many miles per week? If doing a fair few would have thought that would rule out the M3 on running costs. The others you are just renting and monthly will be dictated by miles. 130 seems the best one, if a bit mundane and forgettable.

I can cope with he mpg but have heard similar things about them too, the only reason i'm not thinking Z4MR is the Road Tax @ £500 a year as is a fair bit of money for a daily driver, if it was a weekend toy then I wouldn't mind so much as I would SORN it for winter months.

Just out of interest you have quite a mixture of the relatively old and the new there. What is your budget/thinking here?
It strikes me that if you can afford a decent E46 M3 can you not stretch to the Z4MC your after, particularly when you consider what your PCP payments will be with a couple of the options. Would a loan etc not be similar monthly cost or less to fund the any shortfall to get you your Z4MC?

Around 9000 miles a year for commuting possibly more + weekend fun.

I would possibly put the M3 away next Oct for the winter and get a cheap runner but it would be used until then.

A BMW M1/240i?! It does make you wonder on the need for this with the M2. The M cars have gone a bit soft and everything is using 3.0l twin turbos these days its getting harder to see the need/tell the difference!

M3 would be a fairly big budget of £12k+ with small bank loan (I don't want a rough one)

M135i & M235i would be £5k-£6k deposit on PCP

Z4 / 130i would be bought outright if under £8k ish

A Z4MC would require a fairly big bank loan which I don't really want at the moment after having just bought a house, I would want a sub 40,000 car too which wouldn't be cheap, also wouldn't want it as a daily driver its too nice for that.

Shame on you for bad Man Maths. Daily driver = getting the most out of your £500 VED. :poke: :driving:

Looking at that the only options I would go for is Z4/130i

Haha I cant find a decent Z4MR for under £12k either, I think the M3 & others will be more suitable and then ill love it even more when I get a Z4MC in a few years :)

£200 extra in road tax? Hate to be the bore that says it but thats £3.90 per week or 3 tanks of fuel.

E46 M3 is a fantastic car to own but very difficult to buy a decent one and lots of expensive faults to look out for. I loved mine and swore to only buy a manual but ended up with an SMG due to the limited number of decent cars available.

Having said that my SMG was fault free and always made the car feel more special and edgy on those summer Sunday blasts !

This might be of interest, very little deposit required.

I must have missed the thread. I am very sorry your car has been written off. You had spent a lot of time and cash on it such a shame.

For me it would have to be a e46 m3 coupe manual.
